Cutting down

Dirt Bike Girl

New member
At 5'11" and 145lbs, I am looking to lose about 10lbs. I run everyday and have cut down on the foods I eat so I have noticed a bit of difference but not enough. Can anyone recommend something to speed the process up and how I can lose weight faster?

1) Welcome!
2) What's your bf%?
3) Check out the stickies @ the top of the forum for all the info we'll most likely ask you to be able to guide you in a certain direction.....

Honey, at 5'11" why do you WANT to lose more weight? Seriously, I'm 5'9" and 145 is the rock bottom I've ever weighed and I couldn't maintain it.

135 actually puts you at 18% BMI. Running daily and a very LOW BMI puts you at all sorts of risks health wise.

Why don't you work on gaining LBM and toss that scale :qt: come over to the dark side :lmao:

Hi DBG, welcome to EF! The goal you are trying to achieve is a little confusing -- there might be some myths to be dispelled for you to understand where we are coming from w/ our suggestions. First I'd like to understand why you want to be that light at nearly 6 ft tall? Are you modeling or something very specific? Also weight is sort of a misleading thing to measure your goals by because "weight" is made up of muscle, bone, fat and water. I can show you a way to drop 10 lb of water in a week but isn't something you can maintain for more than a few days and it won't really get you what you want. Also note that you can experience 5-8 lb of water weight fluctuation just due to short term change in diet, your period, etc. Also I can also show you how a higher weight but lower bodyfat will look a helluva lot better than a lower weight and higher bodyfat.

Basically the approach you are taking is to starve yourself down & do lots of cardio to burn fat - but the reality is that your body is going to note that it isn't getting enough food to run efficiently and will in turn slow down metabolism. Further if you do a pile of cardio, you will burn some fat but you will also burn muscle -- you know the look that long distance runners have -- lean but really skinny looking... is that the look you are going for, or more like a fitness person or something else? I guess regardless of your approach, if you force your body to do something that you aren't specifically feeding it for, it will work for a while, but I can almost guarantee it will rebound and you will end up worse than when you started. The better approach is to eat a diet that is very specific to your goal -- not to starve yourself down but rather to feed your body exactly what it needs to run efficiently, and then to train & do cardio to balance building muscle & burning fat.

Not knowing the context that is driving your goal all I can do is suggest you alter your goals a little -- would suggest you check out the sticky at the top of the board "Are you new to EF Women's Board - START HERE". LOTS of great info there and the point is to identify a lifestyle that will result in what you want, not do a short-term forced result that won't last long.

Maybe you're just looking to lose body fat? Add free weights and do less cardio. Forget what the scale says. 145# @ 5'11 is thin already.
