Cutler is the man

I don't know about "awesome" but Jay Cutler looked great by jay Cutler standards and I do appreciate the fact that he came in smaller and tighter than in the Ronnie days. He was really huffing and puffing though and I wonder what that was all about. I know that posing is a very taxing thing to do but he was having some respiratory issues at some points. And another thing, all that extra skin on Jay's lower back is weird. I mean he is lean everywhere else EXCEPT his lower back and in some shots he even had extra skin hanging off his glutes. Could that be from the rapid weight loss these guys have to go through in order to "lean out"? I don't agree with the standing but who the hell am I anyway?
And Buff nailed it. Toney Freeman seems to have figured out how to get massive with a small waist. The guy is over 6 feet tall, over 290 lbs BUT with a 33 inche waist! WTF is that all about haha? I mean his quads are about as big as his waist practically.
Anyway, that's my take on the whole thing. Congrats to Jay for bein a part of history as far as the Mr. O is concerned.

This was a great olympia contest. I watched the webcast and was cheering for Jay the whole time. He really put his heart and soul into this. The competition was brutal, but Jay won this hands down.

About the 70's and 80's physiques, yes I totally agree that they are more appealing and I would much rather look like that than the turtle-gut freaks of today. But it's a result of the massive amounts of food they eat and the GH use. They all have it and it is just what is accepted now. I personally would sacrifice some size and bodyfat for a tiny attractive waist, but I ain't an IFBB pro so I don't need to be HUGE like they are either.

It's weird how nearly everyone seems to like the way BBer's looked in the 70's better than today. What's driving it if that's truly what the fans think? Or is it just that people on this board tend to think that more so than others? I'm just curious...I'm not a huge fan of bodybuilding as a sport (just because it's so subjective when it comes to judging, etc.), but I like bodybuilding - sounds stupid, but I think it makes sense....

I am more of a fan of strongman and then powerlifting, but I think all strength sports overlap a lot. One thing that's interesting is that if there is a lean powerlifter or lean strongman competitor, they obviously have the bigger legs and bigger mid-sections just from the nature of the sports. So I guess I think it's cool the BBers have big quads and posterior chain muscles....

I'm sure GH has a large part in the bigger midsections, but if these guys squat and deadlift a lot (I don't know, other than maybe Ronnie C. and Johnie Jackson), then that might be a big part of it as well. Basically, you can't deadlift 800+ and not have a pretty big midsection, even in a DL suit and belt.

Anyway...rambling on. And I'm not being critical, just curious as to what you guys think. I have always been a fan of Cutler and Ronnie, but I'm probably the type of fan that likes to see just monsterous dudes, lol. For example, I would have expected Ruhl to have been much more successful over his career, but I guess the issue is balance? I can see that his triceps (last time I noticed) were lagging compared to the rest of his body, but I'm not sure what else?

It's cool there doesn't seem to be much of a controversy as to who won it for once! And man, let me say that it looks tough as hell to be a BBer. Everday through out the day is a precise action for a result that may be months away! Diets and everything are watched so closely... And even though some strength guys give Bodybuilding shit, I think it's cool...(it's usually the fattest dudes!) I mean look at Mariusz Pudz.! Everyone knows who he is because of how he looks and performs. And another lean strongman once said "Why get fat on purpose? Fat isn't performance enhancing last I checked." LOL

I'm just a wannabe strongman, FWIW, but would rather be 300lbs with 10% BF than 20%!

Big weekend - WSM qualifiers were this weekend too.

Ruhl is insanely big, but yeah, he needs more balance and that's always been his problem.

Arnold was 6'2, competing at 235 lbs. Jay Cutler is 5'9 competing at 250lbs+. He is leaner and drier than Arnold and MUCH more massive than he was. (correct my facts if they are off, sorry). All that extra mass on a man's frame has to look freaky and inhuman. I think people in general want a more realistic and aesthetically pleasing body to look at. Tiny waist, broad upper body, toned and balanced legs. The guys today has tremendous legs and their core is huge. This is just because as time goes on, bigger will mean better. The bodybuilders keep getting bigger and freakier and because of this, their shape will start to lose the pleasing look and go with more of a freaky monstrous look.

I totally respect the top IFBB pros and think they are awesome. I don't want that look for myself. I'd rather have an Arnold era look. But I am not knocking the current guys at all since this is the size and level of monstrosity they need to compete and win.

cutler and warren blew everyone out of the water with their legs alone. cutler was packed on with size. fucking ruhl going the way of nassar with those synthol delts. gonna look gross in a few years time. thats a guarantee. what was with all the small, slender legs, especially from the side and back?
