For whatever reason, I always have more success at push presses whenever I clean the weight from the floor (for the first rep only). I don't know if its a momentum thing that gets me going or what...Scotsman said:No reason I shouldn't get that 335, somehow it's a mental block.

searay said:damn, you are a beast. thats some awesome weight big man !! i would bet your gonna have to get 275 7-8 times to get the 335. thats a big jump.....
b fold the truth said:I'm pretty sure that you are missing that weight because of back strength. Erector and upper back strength.
You have different techniques between the two videos. In the 275 set it is nearly like your back is acting "supported" and stays in place once the bar gets to the position where you have to "lock it out" over your head. When in the same position with the 335...your aren't able to shove your head through. This makes me think that there is a weakness in your back somewhere through your erectors to traps.
If it makes sense...the upper back and erectors act like a back support when pressing, making it like doing an incline with leg and body drive into it. At a point your weakness is showing up with a certain weight...and it is somewhere between your waist and your head.
Hope that makes some sense.
If it doesn't...shoot me your number and I'll try to give you a call this week.
Scotsman said:I see what your saying and it makes sense. Part of it may be fatigue since I do shoulders on thurs after doing chest on mon and deads/back on tues. It's kind of weird I can do 315 pretty much the same as 275 as far as form goes but that extra 20 lbs is killing me.
Thanks for looking man your opinion does mean a great deal to me.
Cheers,
Scotsman
b fold the truth said:Trust me man, I feel you. There is a point where even 5-10 lbs means the world of difference on my overhead press...especially with a bar.
Do you have any bands to train with?
Keep taking vids man...PLEASE! These are motivating. I can't press a plate a side without pain on any type of bar right now...but these vids are motivation to keep working at it.
