Constant headache...

b fold the truth

Elite Strongman

I've been taking high dose ibuprofen for 2 weeks or more...so what do I do for a headache? Any chance that the alleve, ibuprofen, etc...could be causing the headache?

B True

just looked it up and 'overdose symptoms' are: severe nausea, vomiting, headache , confusion, and seizures.

when you say that you've been taking high doses, how much exactly are you taking? several times the label recommendation, on a constant basis? ...that could be causing it.

For the past 2 weeks I have taken 4-5 grams of ibuprofen and the reccomended dose of alleve every day...

B True

try some excedrin. try 2 maybe 3 at a time. i was up to 8 ibuprofin a day when i tried this. after a week or so mix it up. try excedrin one day and ibuprofin the next. something is clearly wrong so seek help if you have medical coverage.

maybe something to do with your eyes?

4-5 grams is a lot!! If you look it up in the PDR, the range & frequency for adults is 200-400mg, every 4-6 hours, not to exceed 1,200mg per day. Now, they usually err on the side of caution, but damn, you're 4 times the maximum amount.... for an extended period of time. I'd definitely give the ibuprofren a break and try something else. ...btw, ibuprofen isn't very liver-friendly, and it specifically warns against taking with AAS... just in case that pertains to you.

I wish you lived closer to me cause you REALLY need another mother to just put the whoop to you as only a mommy can do. So just imagine at the end of ever sentence that I smack you over the head with my black springy plastic spatula...

DID YOU GO TO THE CHIRO?!?!?
How is your back?!?!?
From the amount of pain meds I am assuming that the answers are NO and BAD.

Back problems can CAUSE headaches....
Please, go to the doctor! Talk to their business office ahead of time, there were times when my kids were little and we were so poor that we could only sent $5 to the doctor and $10 to the hospital each month but it was fine as long as we attempting to pay.

You being all stubborn and hardheaded and prideful is going to end up causing an injury so serious that it may COST you your dream and I, for one, want to sit on my couch and watch you in strongman comps on TV.

End of beating... now what can I fix you to eat????

Temple...I just have 2 more weeks of training then I'll take my chiropractor's advice...

B True

If you are going to continue to be stubborn about the training...fine...just do me (and yourself) a favor and LAY OFF OF THE IBUPROFEN!!!!!!

NSAIDs inhibit protein synthesis. At those dosages you are not going to grow any new muscle before your contest anyway--so what's the point? You need to get off the NSAIDs NOW.

JC

I'd lay off the ibuprofen dude.

This is not very relevant, but I had a pounding headache for 4 days straight once. I think it turned out I had mono or something. I dunno.

But what about the back pain? Seriously...

Your back still hurts, though...even when you take the Ibuprofen. I'm serious...you are going to mess up your stomach or something else taking that much. PLUS...you have been taking that much for so long now...it probably isn't even helping you anymore. You have probably just gotten accustomed to it. Why don't you lay off of it for a while...and start taking it again just 2 days before your contest or something. I'm really not joking with you on this...that isn't something to mess with. You DO realize that people can OD on that stuff....

Go to the emergency room and get a CAT scan immediately.

There are two things that move you to the front of the line in a busy ER... telling them you've just had a heart attack... and telling them you've had a headache for two weeks.

Go now.

lay off that shit for a while, its doing much more harm then good, smoke pot if you want pain relief.Go to the hospital and make sure your liver is ok.

People have been telling you to go for TWO weeks now...and you have only gone to the chiropractor...and didnt' even get adjusted when you went (just got the electrode therapy). You seriously need to go...and if you know what's wrong and STILL decide to compete...then that is up to you. But for heaven's sake...quit being so stubborn and GO!!!

the headache could be your blood pressure like corn said, or it could be a rebound situation. with the stress you are under, i'd think most likely blood pressure.

i've said it before. go to the emergency room. they can't turn you away. get an mri on your back. i promise if you go in and mention some of the symptoms i asked you about, you'll get one pronto and then you'll know what you are dealing with.

What did the chiro say?????
Why did you NOT get adjusted???
What was his advice EXACTLY?????
Look, if you go to the doctor and tell then the whole deal they MIGHT give you something like darvoset for the pain.

Night Fly, this is exactly what happened to my wife a couple weeks before she died.

SofaGeorge...I'm confused. I hope that I didn't say anything that hurt you....I kind of don't understand what you are saying though.

Temple...since he insn't answering, I will. The chiro told him that he needed to go to the ER and get and MRI immediately!! He still didn't listen to him...:(

and he won't go because he knows they will tell him to not compete, right?????

I think the point SG was making is that sometimes these symptoms can be very serious using the case of his wife as an example. In other words Bfold - GET YOUR BUTT TO THE EMEREGENCY ROOM NOW!!!!!

Bfold - worst case scenario is you miss this comp, heal up and compete again somewhere down the road. If you don't listen this could be the last comp you ever do.

Temple, I've given up trying to convince him to go. He won't listen to me...and yes...he is very afraid that they will tell him not to compete.

There is nothing that I can do for him.

I as already told by a doctor that I should not be training at all...much less competing. This doctor lifts weights, is a good friend, AND has seen me compete before.

Discretion is the better part of valour - Get yourself to a doctor, preferably a neurosurgeon and have it checked out. Headaches are often caused by referred pain from the back, spine or neck - get it checked out.

Night Fly, I wasn't taking offense. I was commenting on the similarity here.

My wife had a headache for two weeks. She was training for the Ms. Muscle Beach show and wouldn't go to see a doctor. Finally, I dragged her butt into the ER when I saw that she was struggling with a weight she could normally lift easily... and the headache wouldn't stop.

She got a CAT scan in her work out clothes... and they told her she'd be dead in two weeks. (She lasted five.)

She was in the best health a woman can be in. She looked amazing... and would have been an easy winner for her show.

And like many athletes... she refused to slow down enough to believe that she needed to get herself checked out when she showed symptoms of something being wrong. She even did a full leg workout at Gold's Venice the day before she died.

SofaGeorge...

Wow...that was intense. I'm extremely sorry for your loss. It hurts me to think that it could happen just out of the blue like that. I don't know what to say.

SofaGeorge:

I really didn't need to read that...at all.

B True

Yeah dude, listen to Sofa... speaking from experience... it is always better to know sooner than later... for your own good and peace of mind.

Bro, you aren't going to the doctor for yourself... you'd be going to put Night Fly's heart at ease.

I guess that THIS post really hit me hard. I really am feeling better though. I'll try to make another appointment for x-rays again on Thursday. I'll look at getting an MRI done asap if I still need one.

That woman means the world to me. Probably more than I do to myself...

Why ask for advice if you're not going to follow it? If you care about your girl as much as you say you do you will get your ass to the ER to at least get checked out. Why the fuck are you being so stubborn about this?

MAY I SUGGEST GOING TO THE DOCTOR. CONSTANT HEADACHE COULD MEAN LOTS OF SHIT.
