consensus on calories added to BMR per lb. of muscle gained

Hey guys.. I was wondering if there is any sort of consensus on this issue.. I've heard that for every pound of muscle gained, that burns burns/requires an extra X number of calories per day to maintain.

Now I've heard X equals anywhere from 25 calories per pound up to 75 calories per pound in different publications throughout my life.

But then I think about it more and people calculate their BMR by taking LBM x 12.. so it would seem by that formula that an extra pound of muscle would only add TWELVE calories per day.

It depends on a few factors. Age activity level etcera. When it comes down to it, in my opinon there isn't enough difference in 12 calories or 75 calories to make a big difference. If you're talking about a 10 pound gain, that may be a little more significant. I think the different formulas vary so much because of people's range of activity levels. I tend to err on the side of caution though. If I'm cutting, I go with the lower number and the opposite for bulking. When it comes down to it, you need to do a little trial and error to see what gets the best result for your body. Any other data of calculation you use is just a guideline, in my opinion.
