Confused Newbie Looking For Advice

Hi Everybody - I am a newbie looking to lose fat and get toned. I've been searching the internet, but there are so many different diets/exercise routines that I'm totally confused! I wanted a woman's opinion on what has worked and where I should start.

I am 23, 5'6", and somewhere around 130 - 135 lbs. I'm not overly concerned with what the scales say, but I've noticed that my clothes are getting tight and I'm expanding in several directions! I also need to work out for health reasons. I'm looking at several gyms this week, so hopefully I will be signed up and in one soon!

What I'm really looking for is some advice on where I should start in terms of diet and exercise. Thanks for all your help!

In order to start making suggestions about diet and/or exercize I would need to know a few things about you first. 1) your exact cosmetic and fitness goals, i.e number of pounds to lose, bodyfat percentage to achieve, etc. 2)your current diet and 3)how much and type of exercize you get

Can you post up a typical day's diet (and by "diet" I mean what you eat)? Then we can critique & go from there.....

If you want to try keeping track of foods to see where you can cut, etc, www.fitday.com is a good site & it's free. I use it daily to make sure I eat enough protein, fiber, etc.....

Some tips: throw the concept of "dieting" out the window & just focus on eating properly -- the right foods, the right times, the right amounts. Go for eating every 3-4 hours & keep the foods basic & clean. Which means plenty of healthy proteins, carbs, veggies, etc..... NO processed crap, white foods like pasta & white breads, etc....
 
Good starting stuff! I was wondering when you said you also need to work out for health reasons - were you referring to a specific health issue or just in general? I'm asking because any particular health issue might have a significant impact to how you approach the whole fitness thing.
