okay well my girl is coming off birth control after being off for about a year and a half now, shes been on the shot for about a yer and shes on her second period since being off but shes getting really bad cramps, she got some midol so it seems to be helping but what should she expect length wise for how long shes on her period, it was like 3 days, 4 atthe most while whe was on the shot, but now thats hes off will it be longer? or about the same? any one who's come off birthcontrol who might have some experience here id appreciate the help, thanks!

My experience coming off the shot was a nightmare. My periods took forever to get anywhere close to normal, and now they are shorter and lighter than before I started the shot, for a while not at all (a little nerve wracking...) and I also get cramps now, when I didn't before. I also didn't have any period at all while on the shot... I did go straight to the pill from the shot, though, if that makes any difference. I have been off the shot for over 2 1/2 years.

I was on the shot for about 1 year, then off for a few years because of headaches and now I'm back on with no problems. When I came off the shot before, my periods actually became regular (after sometime, don't remember exactly how long). They had never been regular before. The downside is that I started getting really bad back cramps during the first few days of each period, bad enough that I needed a prescription because NSAIDS wouldn't take care of the pain. This lasted for several months and eventually subsided on its own. My periods were about 7 days (which was normal for me), but I also was getting spotting for a few days after my period ended for a while. It takes a while for your body to get back to normal, and in some cases maybe your body chemistry changes so that you won't be exactly the same. I'm not a doctor though, so I can't say for sure. Hope this helps a little.

my girlfriend was on the shot and didn't have her period at. when she came off the first time she went back to normal. well normal for her which was like a 3 day period. then she had my son and went back on the shot and since going on she literally has not stopped having a period since. the shot is no joke and effects every women diffrent for some reason
