coan injury

I heard the same. Very disappointing when a lifter of Ed's caliber gets injured. He is tough as nails and I'm sure he will be back better than ever. Apparently, if he had hit his second squat attempt and his bench & dead openers he would have taken the Heavies. Congrats to Steve Goggins for winning the Heavies.

Its sad to hear what happened to Ed Coan. Being the man that he is, he will be back from this injury, and he will come back strong. I wish him the best of luck in recovery!

That really sucks. Since I just blew a bicep tendon, I can really
relate. Hope he makes a quick recovery.

Does his narrow stance (relative to westside principles) lend itself to these type of quad tendon injuries? I don't ever want to rupture my patella tendon, one reason I enjoy this new westside style squatting.. I feel no pressure on my knees..

But is this just a placebo effect? Can you blow your patella tendon in a wide, shins perpendicular type stance?

Pec tendon tears, patella tendon tears and biceps tendon tears are my 3 fears in life. I think #1, #2 are taken care of by form alone, but the biceps tendon tear is up in the air.. can't prevent it while deadlifting except for flexing your tris..

I blew my patella tendon, and i was allways a close stance squatter, it definetly lends itself to that injury..the weight shifts out over your knees, instead of sitting back with it, in the WS style!! Joe ladneir tore his patella tendon, 14 years ago in tampa, i was spotting him, he had 9 plus on his back!! and he used the wide stance..so its hard to say!! But i will tell you one thing...if you get that chronic tendonitis in the patella tendon, be careful..everyone i talked to and from my own experience...that tendon aches badly, then pow, the next thing you know its torn!!! Mine was so bad before i tore it, i had to walk up stairs sideways, due to the pain!!

Dam i actually have a lot of discomfort in my patella after every squat session, box or no box. In fact i have to ice it as soon as i get home. Feels better though since i havent squatted heavy in awhile. But believe me i knwo its there, and it is smack dab in the patella tendon. Time will tell.
