Circuit Training vs. Lifting Heavy ~Fat Loss needed for March!

I really want to lose fat. I have done really well reshaping my body with weight lifting. Thrilled with the results so far. I can see my muscles and I work out really hard lifting heavy as well as cardio.

I've been doing this with my reps:

12, 10, 8, 6, 12, 12 (different exercise same muscle group)

The heaviness of my weights increases and I go back down on the last 12's but still to near failure almost always. I get sore but I love it.

Anyway, I've got a great foundation but it's all covered up by fat still.

Mon-Lowerbody
Tues-Cardio
Wed-Upperbody
Thurs-Cardio
Fri-Lowerbody
Sat-Yoga or rest

So, today I asked one of the trainers at the gym what to do to lose fat and he suggested circut training. He's a boxer and he showed me some stuff. Basically, the idea is to keep moving and sweating while lifting weights and doing some more complex moves inbetween reps using higher reps with lighter weight. Hence, burning more calories. He showed me a lunge/squat/press move with a medicine ball, ect.

I am having a friendly competition with a girlfriend who has the almost exact same stats as me to see who can lose the most pounds + inches in the month of March.

I wanna do it healthy of course! Nothing stupid. No low carbing it, ect. Just ordered Lipoflame on Monday.

Any thoughts on where to start with the circuit stuff to lose fat? Other ideas to revamp things?

Unfortuneately the lifting part isn't the crux of weight loss. It's all about diet. You are doing enough cardio already so trying to burn more calories by doing circuit training may not help all that much. What you need to do is adjust your caloric intake and the percentages of each (Protein, fat, carbs).

Cheers,

Well, the reason he suggested circuit training is because he is a boxer. Personally, I'd try to maintain your core lifts, get rest in between them, and throw in some incline walking or HIIT along the way..and like said above, diet is a HUGE part, so make sure thats in check..

Thank you. That's why I thought I'd get your opinon as to the circut thing.

Ok, so, I'm gonna go plan my food or even lay it out in rubbermaid containers now like I do for my kiddos.

Oh yeah, I do HIIT. I do it to Guns and Roses Welcome to the jungle over and over and sweat a lot so it's def my diet that's screwing with me. I eat lots of great stuff but also been eating Skinny Cows, Cake and creamy coffee , ugh.

Yeah stay away from the junk for the most part, once in a while is ok.

Keep us posted on your progress, and let us know if there is anything we can help with.

Thanks Scotsman! I am going to go crazy on planning my diet again. I had gotten so enthused about my workout that I haven't been as militant about it which is changing as of now!

Ok, I need to figure out the whole protein/fat/carb balance. So, I'm off to study Tatyana's stickies in the ladies forum.

Thanks again!

:friends: I WILL keep you updated because I wanna be a hottie for summer. It's sneaking up on us ya know? I want a new wardrobe and having all my clothes be too big is great ploy to get one, lol!

It will greatly depend on the combination of exercises you choose. You could start with 2-3 exercises per body part, do the circuit only for that part, rest and then go for the next one.

Reps should increase in the range of 15-20. Don't sacrifice form but try not to lower weight too much.

On the other hand, what % if your HR for your cardio? what time do you do it? how much time?

All i can say is that when i eat complex carbs like oats and brown rice/wheat as opposed to sugar and starches(potatoes, carrots and the like) i look leaner, tighter, and feel better overall. Sugar is the enemy. Some sugar is necessary, but an excess of sugar will ruin me, almost noticable on a day to day basis.

Eat complex carbs and you will improve some.
