What does everyone prefer? I prefer Albacore but the price is twice as much as Light - $1 compared to about 50 cents!
The only nutritional difference I can see is about one more gram of protein in Albacore. Are there any other differences between them?
I agree, Albacore tuna tastes much better than the chunk light tuna.
Also, some Albacore tuna's have a moderate amount of omega 3's per serving. These usually have 3 grams of fat per serving and do not have any added oil. For some reason, I have not seen them in any of the big chain stores by my house in the last several months. Maybe they are on the verge of becoming obsolete?
Albacore NO CONTEST. Chunk light is a musty substance, while albacore you can pick up in a few big hunks. Chunk light is very watery and messy, kind of bitter.
I'm with Pink...chunk light is way way too mushy for me...I have a hard enough time gettin' tuna down, and chunk light just makes me gag....I'll stick with Albacore.
I like chunk lite... most people here seem as if they have to force themselves to eat tuna, Hell i ate it before I started bb. Yum! the reason you get mushy stuff is b/c you buy the single cans in the store, if you buy the twelve packs at costco, it's all chunks like albacore.
which one would be better for cutting, since albacore has more fat in it than chunk light. i get the chunk light cause it's more economical for a college kid trying to get ripped.
i like the chunk light, its cheaper and thats all i really care about. A lot of times when i buy bumblebee chunk light, the texture actually resembles albacore, which is even better.
First I was eating Chunk Light.... then I tried Albacore and liked it better.... then after about 3 days I couldn't eat it without feeling nauseous. So I'm back to Chunk Light now.... mix it with salsa, and it's fine.
I'm a chunk lite man. I like the idea of albacore, but damn it's dry as hell, especially if you get the pouches. I have yet to see an albacore tuna pouch with oil. Until that day, I'm down with chunk lite.
I prefer the taste of Albacore, but when it comes down to budgeting, I enjoy Chunk light much more often. It can be purchased for damn cheap and is a good protein source. Win and Win.
Out of the two, i chose chunk light. I like the taste vs albacore. If it's solid albacore it's way too dry for me. If you can find chunk albacore it's not so bad.
Lately though I got a good deal light yellowfin tuna in olive oil. Its pretty expensive (2$+ per can) compared to either of the two, but it's been worth it imo.
Ya' know, I almost wish I didn't start eating albacore, I can't even stomach chunk light anymore! I had to give tuna a break though, was eating at least a can a day for like 4 months straight, on a dairy kick now, tons of cottage cheese.
I'll eat catfish, orange roughy, etc. but nothing "fishy"
Chunk light makes me want to puke. I think it's the smell more than anything. I can eat white albacore, have to add mayo or salsa or something though for some moisture.
If I'm gobbing on the mayo then definitely the albacore from costco.
If I'm going lowfat or just want some additional protein instead of a shake I'll go for chunk light. I'm not a big fan of eating tuna without mayo so chunk light is superior for this. Take a nice bite, chew it a couple times and then take some water and swallow it. I can down a can in a couple of minutes with this method. Eating it dry would take awhile.
