i know this topic has been beaten to death but i have a hard time believing that a benevolent god would ever judge a man or woman by who he/she choses as a sex partner.

Not really, according to the rule book the only people that don't spend eternity in the presence of God are the ones that reject Christ. Even IF homosexuality was a sin, or even an abomination like in the OT there is no special sin that Christ's blood sacrifice couldn't cover. I really don't want to get caught up in this again though.
