Evidence backing the health promoting benefits of chocolate continues to mount, bringing dynamism to slacking sales, reports Lindsey Partos. Researchers from Spain have discovered that polyphenols found in cocoa extract influence human cellular responses to oxidative stress.

In vitro (test tube) and in vivo (in humans) studies have shown that cocoa flavonoids and certain chocolates may decrease low-density-lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation

I'll try chocolate post workout :p
Good (things) are not always bad (tasting) :)

^^ Yay!!!!!!!!! *runs off to eat chocolate* j/k

I've read that the darker chocolates are better for you than the milk chocl. varieties, due to the antioxidents in the dark.

Yes dark chocolate = more cocoa = more antioxidants, more magnesium, more flavonoids

Milk chocolate = more sugar

I hate sweets, but chocolate is my weakness: some of that fine Russian or Belgian dark chocolate - ahh, no wonder 'theobromine' means the Drink of Gods.
But given its effect on body recomp I get by with choc pro powder+natural cocoa+chocamine: nothing tastes as good as lean feels, I suppose :o

Do you heat this concoction? Add milk or water?

But does this study talk about the negatives of the saturated fat in chocolate? heh I love when they simplify it down to one variable like that.

Agreed... It's like the battle over coffee: "Coffee is good for your liver!" However, they forget to mention that it robs calcium and water from your body.

The main type of saturated fat in chocolate is stearic acid, which doesn't increase blood cholesterol levels

and, BTW, a little sat fat is good for your T level

Go light on the chocolate, but yes the darker the chocolate the more the benefits. Keep in mind that some of it has hydrogenated oils, so avoid those brands, and try not to go overboard on chocolate in general, due to the fact that it despite the high fat content reducing the GI, it still contains table sugar and saturated fat.
