chest-Dumbells or barbell for bench?

macDbol

New member
ive been doing flat bench for the longest time....just recently moved to dumbells and i do feel it much more,,,,i guess our bodies are all structured differently and its harder to hit my chest by useing a barbell(i still believe in changing it up,,but im focusing on the dumbells more now)...what's your guys take on the the infamous dumbell??

I know you will get a deeper stretch with the dbs for bench, with the bbs, since your hands are at a fixed position, you gain more mass, are able to lift more, what have you, because you are working out different muscles/stabilizers. I dunno. something I always thought was true. someone will straighten this out.

I've always felt I get a better workout wiht DB's (for my chest). Probably because I am opted to use more form with DB's....

i always go BB for the flat and DB for the incline... works great for me ... might wanna try it this way

I switch off. Sometimes I do 3 sets of each. Either that or I'll do barbell one week and dumbell the next. Vareity keeps the muscle from adjusting to the workout.

dbs give you a more scuplted chest, while bbs give the chest mass and thickness. It's good to change it up from time to time. Just watch your form on bb's many people don't know how to bench and fck up there shoulders. Overall I like db's better for that picture perfect chest.

Definetely Dumbbells. That barbell can screw up you rotator cuff to damn easy. When that happens you are off for a while and that really sux.

I personally like dumbells cause they do actually feel better (with the chest contraction)........dumbells are good for hitting the chest but i do feel that barbells are better for compound mass and strength. Still, i mix it up!!!!!

I find if I do one or the other longer than a month I get into a rut. Now I switch them up every month. The first time I came back to the barbell press after a month of dumbbells my bench shot up 40 pounds for my last set.

You can not change the shape of your chest or any muscle by doing certain exercises...you can only develop it more...should probably be under bodybuilding myths.

I mixed both at one time and got good results...

4-6 rep's with bb, 30 second break...4-6 rep's with dumbbells.
2 minute rest...start again for 4 sets.

Worked really well...both for mass and strength

Why do some people insist on dumbells, when used in a pressing motion, being almost like isolation movements compared to bar? That is so not true

Anyway, Ive got great results doing incline DB's and flat barbell

Mix em up

I havent bothered with incline barbell recentlyas I always get a shoulder workout with it and not a chest workout

dumbells for me are great for really targetting the chest, i can really feel it working and so far the growth in my chest has reflected this

but barbell is important, especially flat for power and thickness

when im bodybuilding i use dumbells

when im powerlifting i use barbells

lee haney used both in his workout

he would do:
incline bb
incline db
flat bb
flat db

With renewed vigor for declines, dumbell flys and presses seem to be giving me better pumps and deeper cuts.

It's working Glootz .) (.

I have become a believer in decline dumbell presses and flies. I know many disagree but this has been my personal experience and where I have seen the most gains as pointed out by Glootz during a workout this week.
