Just wanted to let others know that I found a good source for inexpensive whey protein. The catch is, they only sell in bulk (like 20kg or 25kg bags). The sales lady, Jane Macey [[email protected]], said she will send out a 4oz sample for you to try if you want to be sure about taste, solubility, etc, before shelling out for a whole 20kg bag.
For the whey protein concentrate 20kg bag, I was charged $163.16 total (they only charge actual cost, for shipping, which was about $8 for me). So including shipping, my cost per pound is about $3.63, (20kg = 45lbs).
The stuff mixes well, tastes bland (like weak milk) but not bad, and comes unsweetened/unflavored. See their website here:
