Charles Glass

Hey I have to give it to Charles Glass man, that guy and Chris Aceto are the shit. If I had the money I would be training with one of these guys, Did anyone read the new Flex about Gunter's training with Glass....The guy is a saint for Bodybuilders.

I watched Charles train people year in year out for about 10 years. Constantly he took mediocre bodybuilders and built them up in a very short time to being in legendary condition. (Being one of Charles' clients was a ticket to being on magazine covers.) I'd love to know what it was that he did differently, because honestly on a day to day basis I couldn't see him doing anything out of the ordinary.

He may be a twig but I'll tell you what he builds them big man, Maybe he could put a few punds on you, lol.

Shit if I lived in southern Cali. I would definitly be tring to scrap enough money to train with him and adopt his principles. Your right he has turned a lot of guys into the bigtime....I think Mike Christansen was the first about 10 yrs ago...or was it Mike Francois....

There was time when we has huge. Keep in mind he is over the age of 50 (correct me if im wrong). He has turned around many bb's careers. I would let glass train me in a second if I could.

yeah from what i have read in flex...he really knows his shit. i saw the gunter issue where glass helped him get a bigger back. so yeah he may be a twig but he has much respect from a lot of people and he sure is making that money!

sofageorge is on the money...I see Glass training guys everyday-- big muscle dudes & smaller guys. Glass is still pretty built for his age (good article onhim in MD June '03)

no.....but he was huge for his framn was my point.....he competed in the Masters O a couple of years ago and I think he was 210-215 if I rememebr correctly

If you were busy training folks the way he does you wouldn't have time to keep in top condition either...

In the article he had on a sweat shirt so I couldn't really tell but I knew he used to be a pro some time ago,

I would definitly let him roll my joints, infact I want one as long as his dreads!!!

He looks like a twig to me

That's the wrong song bro.

No offense but that's a really dumb statement. CG is in his 50's, looks great, and knows his shit.

When will people learn BIG means NOTHING. Any fool can do a gram of test and a couple of A-bombs and get big in 6 months. That isn't bodybuilding.

I know dozens of ex pros who look quite "normal" just a year or two after they stop the juice. It's an epidemic these days. The guys who respond well to the sauce will get huge fast by taking ungodly amounts of gear, but it isn't the solid muscle you get from proper training. Once they go natural they're very "normal". I'll take the hardgainer who looks great clean over these science experiements any day of the week.

Ian King is a renouned training expert. Will Brink knows more about supplements than most anybody. Doug Kalman is a mastermnd of nutrition. Has anyone ever seen these guys with their shirts off? You wouldn't look twice. Even Dan Duchaine wouldn't be taken "bodybuilder" in street clothes.

It's time people realized that the type of physique one obtains from steroids is a free ride -- a gift -- a temporary pleasure. I'd like to see all the guys who boast about how big they are or how much they've gained from their cycles 6 months after they've been clean.

Want to know what a great body is supposed to look like? Take a look at the bodybuilding mags from the 60's. Reeves, Scott, Howorth, Zane, Draper. These men looked like MEN -- shapely and muscualar. Rugged and masculine. They've always been some who were more genetically blessed more than others, but "back in the day" bodybuilders shared a common goal; body -BUILDING. Learning, working, sharing, striving to be the best you can be. That's what it's about. Well, that's what it's supposed to be about. It is to me anyway.

obviously you have never seen any of glass' old pictures. he looked sharp. the man knows his shit. you can post pics on yahoo and post a link to them here

I'm sure he knows his shit bro, but I like to listen to people who practice what they preach. Don Youngblood is an old dude too, don't you think he has a little size on Charles?

youngblood is still in the game. glass isnt. glass already "practiced what he preaches"

I'm talking age wise bro I think they are somewhat close. If Glass is training bodybuilders then technically he is still in the game.

he trains them but he doesnt compete. that would be like comparing a football coach and a football player. glass had some legal problems with drugs a few years back. he probably stopped cycling after that. im sure he would still look great if he kept on cycling.

My guess is Charles Glass has some knowledge of how to properly cycle juice. No real secrets, it just that the clients he turns into champs are probable dumb fucks who dont have a clue how to juice or what to take.........................galaxy

..............................

Hell dude, my back looks better than the one in that avatar and I'm almost 50 myself -- and clean. But I guess if I took a gram of gear a week, I'd be a lot smarter and more qualified to train you.

What's ironic about all this is that I think personal training is a joke and most strength coaches are full of shit.

Let's see your back at 175lbs bro I'm sure it looks better than mine at 210.

I hope you aren't talking about me taking a gram of gear old man, I've never been over 675mg per week, and that was only for 4 weeks when I was on dbol. Thanks for stereotyping though.

For someone who doesn't believe in personal trainers you sure are tugging at this dudes sack quit a bit.

Yea, he sure looks small doesn't he?

Dumbass.

thate: Your belief that I was accusing you of taking a gram of week coincides with the fact that you're keep missing the point.

Hell, I thought you were natural.

It may be futile explaning this, but my point is that taking more gear and getting bigger does not make someone more qualified, more knowledgable. more skilled, or a better coach. I think everyone here, except you, understood that the first time around.

210? You're 20 pounds heavier than Zane when he won the Olympia, but I guess you look better than him cause you're bigger, huh?

I got an Aunt Lorreta who's 235. Maybe you should give her a call for some training advice.

lol

I have seen a cleaning woman with 20 inch arms...maybe I should ask her arm training secrets

Cause Shawn Ray's bf is under 5, and mine was at 9.5 in that pic. Plus I am 2 inches taller. Any other questions?

Good..you proved my point - you are TALLER and have LESS lbm.

I do have one other question though:

Do you think honestly think that outward appearance is any indication of knowledge??

If so you are a complete idiot.

Cornholio,
You are correct Shawn Ray carries much more lbm than me, that wasn't even in question. He is a pro! I never claimed to be some kind of mass monster at any point on this thread.

I honestly think that one's outward appearance, to a degree shows some indication of knowledge. How can you think there is no correlation bro? Would you take cutting advice from butterbean or fridge perry? If you would then you are the complete idiot my friend.

You are being riddiculous.

BTW, atkins doesn't exactly have 5% bodyfat, but his techniques work to reduce bodyfat.

Also, have you ever seen a pic of Dan Duchane? He looks like the nerdy guy everyone picked on in highschool, but his knowledge on anabolics was far beyond anyone's.

It is good to practice what you preach, but it isn't necessarily the determining factor if you know anything or not.

The other day I was talking to this 60year old+ guy who put up 3plates on bench easilly but didn't know that juice was carbohydrates since it has sugars in it. I sure the hell wouldn't take diet advice from this guy but I wouldn't mind hearing his training methods as i've never seen anyone put up 3plates at age of 60+ (I am sure he used to do way more in his prime).

True. For awhile there everyone raved about animal and his knowledge, until a pic of him went around the boards where he was actually 150 13%bf. People still stuck by him, to me it lessens his credibility. But he also always talked about how jacked and ripped up he was.

Animal's body may be a joke to many bodybuilders (besides, he isn't even a bodybuilder nor ever claimed to be) but I am sure everyone on this board has benefited from his knowledge of steroids and other supplements. It still doesn't change the fact that he is a jackass though. He probably doesn't know shit about training but he was still the first to come up with fina kits, so does this mean he knows nothing?

Those that can't teach......it's that simple...Charles did the best with what he had...which wasn't to shabby....imo....he is training a buddy of mine right now....and to be honest I don't see what is so special about the techniques themselves...but the intensity level is something entirely different.....it's one thing to say you are hardcore in the gym....but when you have someone riding you hard until you physically CAN NOT go on....that's is what taking to the limits is all about....:D

Wow, that's a pretty harsh statement, Nelson. Especially considering what it takes to get certified at a legitmate organization such as the NSCA. I realize you said "most," however, that's still an awful lot of strength coaches. I've been studying for the cert. (CSCS) myself the past 3 or 4 months and took the exam in fact only a few weeks ago. It was incredibly hard and I prepared my ass of. And just fyi I have a BS and MS in engineering mechanics so I'm no stranger to studying or difficult study material.

I dunno, that statement just surprised me so and I had to comment.

Let's just let it go bro. I never once said I was big, there was a request for my pic and I put one up. That was it man. I expect to see you at the O next year with those stats bro. Good luck, I will be rooting for you. I will be sitting along side Mr. Glass :D

bf measurements are bogus, particularly with calipers. That's for damn sure. Stuff like "you're not big at such and such weight and bf" and "I look bigger or better than you" is also bullshit.

Set some goals and work to achieve them, and then set some new ones, etc.

I know Thate made a personal attack of a sort by saying that Charles Glass and Nelson looked like twigs. But, to me, it looks more like he was just stating his opinion that: I wouldn't trust a small guy to make me bigger.

Seeing what Charles glass has done for many bodybuilders makes me think that, obviously, he knows his stuff. But, there is something inside me that says, "yeah, but he's so small now.." Subconsciously, I think I'd rather be trained by a guy that was actually big- today.

My whole approach to BB, and I'm sure this is the case for most of us, is that I really don't care as much about competition (for myself) as I do about creating a muscular physique I can live with day in and day out for many years. So, for guys like me, and perhaps like Thate, what Charles Glass offers (peak performance for top competitors) just doesn't register as appealing.

Obviously a guy can be knowledgable big or small. But, what we have to figure out is if that knowledge and/or experience is the type that can help us achieve our own individual goals.

Why do people keep saying Charles is small? He isn't a little guy.

Yeah I can't figure that out either Sofa. Why is his size even an issue? If I knew someone who was training elite athetes, had the chance to meet him/her and realized they looked and acted nothing like I wanted to be, would that make me shy away from the possibility of being trained by them? Fuuuuuuuuuck no!!! I try to keep an open mind and I believe that BB, without being stimulated with difference in opinion of diet, training, supplementation, and gear, would go nowhere. It's the debate- especially here at EF- that promotes learning and the sharing of knowledge. The few pics I've seen of Charles Glass have me impressed. More than that though is his success with top tier BBs, incredible:alien:

Honestly, I've never seen him in person. The last pictures I saw of him, he looked very small. But these might have been from a few years ago, bad angle, too baggy of clothes..I don't know. Maybe he's bigger now. I'm guessing that the other people saying this have only seen the photos where he looks small as well. I certainly don't mean any disrespect to Charles and I definately think he was in awesome shape in his competitive days.

Last time I saw him was about three months ago... prior to that I saw him pretty much every day for about 10 years. He isn't a little guy... not sure what his weight is, but he is a bigger guy compared to most... stocky muscle. I'm 6'4" and was about 240lbs most of the time he was around. He didn't look "little" next to me. He ALWAYS wears big sweat shirts so lookyloos can't get a perspective of his body... but I've seen him a few times in the posing room working with clients. He's a stocky guy with a lot of muscle... definitely doesn't come under the heading of "small."

I didnt read this whole post but I also Know...........

He took the rap for someone else years ago on a Roid sting. Wasnt cool because he stayed under investigation for a while behind it and he was clean at the time.

I agree about glass, and others that train and are KNOWN experts. I am a personal trainer, i have 19 inch arms at 5'8", i feel it helps me to have some muscle. I know im not huge, but i look the part and am someone aspiring trainees can look up to. Now, maybe the women are a different story, maybe they are intimidated, and maybe some of the guys too, but i still feel they prefer an "in shape" look over one of the flabby trainers. So, the point is we KNOW glass has knowledge, as we KNOW certain others do, whether that is by past experience or current events. However, if you can say one of those flabby out of shape trainers making $50 an hour doesnt piss you off, you are a more patient man than me. The trainers level of dedication to the sport should be enough to keep him/her in respectable shape. Appearance matters to that extent.-WULF
