Hey. I just began incorporating 20 min of cardio after my workouts. My question is will my body use my lean muscle for fuel when I do 20 min of cardio (1.5 miles at 4.5 treadmill speed) after lifting for 90 minutes.? Il eat a bowl of oatmeal an hour before going to the gym and only drink water at the gym. So by the time I do my cardio I havn't ate anything for 2.5-3.0 hours. Once im done with the cardio Il have a 60gram shake followed by a meal. My stats are

25yo
212 lbs
6'1
14.5% body fat
3500-4000 cals daily (300g protien)

My goal is to get down to 11-12% body fat without loosing much weight. Im waiting on a cycle hopefully will show up soon..

My overall diet is very good.

No you wont burn lean muscle, after weight training, your body is completely depleted. This means that you'll be guaranteeing that you're burning exclusively fat from the minute you start to the minute you end your cardio session

After weights you will be more likely to burn BF due to your glycogen lvls being depleted. Especially when you get on anabolic androgenic steroids you can realllly hold onto muscle and will have no problem doing cardio w/fear of losing muscle.

When you are not on AAS you may wanna look into BCAA/EAA products which will help with holding onto muscle during cardio.

But if you are jumping on Cycle you wont really need BCAA/EAA product.

Also for your postworkout shake add simple carbs for an insulin spike something like Gatorade mix does the job. WHy? well you want to spike your blood sugar lvls post workout to get nutrients to your muscles faster. Ideally this should be the only time you consume sugary carbs if you are trying to lower your BF%.

you should still use BCAA (and maybe extra leucine and glutamine) if you train on an MT stomach - yes the steroids are cortisol receptor antagonists, but they're not absolute blocks and why add to the cortisol load.

worst case, its like chicken soup - kant hoyit

Good info, and I suppose you will even continue the fat burning after the session if you achieved the proper intensity.

Good post.

In order to get the insulin spike you need to eat sugar with a high glycemic index like dextrose (glucose) or maltodextrin.

Gatorade powder does contain dextrose but the first ingredient listed is sucrose (table sugar, a disaccharide of glucose and fructose) which has a glycemic index of only 60. Juices and soft drinks sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup won't work at all because fructose has a glycemic index of about 11.

For my post-workout shake I use corn sugar from the local brewing supply shop since it is all glucose.

Have you considered splitting into AM and PM workouts. I have found I can actually build strength while cutting BF% if I do cutting supplements like ephedrine or whatever in the morning , do like an hour or hour-and-half before you start your normal day, then eat your breakfast and supplement protein throughout day and have normal high prot, low carb meals. Then, do heavy lifting at night at low-rep , high intensity. Metab should be slowed by this point. Go home and take a shake and go to bed.

I have found that I can train cardio hard in the morning on an empty stomach and then eat all day and have great power at night, and I'm already warmed up and stretched out from full day (less pulls and cramps and such). Also, food you eat after lifts goes straight into muscle recovery as you sleep and little is transferred to fat stores. Whatever is left burns off in the morning plus some.

If you do this you may want to be on something for recovery because you may be sore a lot.
