You can do intervals after weights. Treadmill, stair climber, even bike.
They can take up less time and are more beneficial for fat loss. The thing is, whether or not you use "fat" for fuel during cardio is pretty inconsequential. 20-30 minutes of low-intensity cardio may burn 300 calories. It would take 12 sessions just to burn a pound of fat, assuming you just use fat for fuel.
But the calories burned AFTER can add up significantly. And that's where intervals really pay off.
