Car peeps assemble. Cadillac CTS-V

Plank mentioned this car in an unrelated thread and I was reminded I needed to bring up my recent experience in this beast.

Monday or Tuesday of last week my father received the gray coupe he ordered months ago. That thing is the fastest car in which I've ever ridden, no contest. Had I been driving I probably would've been ok, but as a passenger I was white knuckling. I can't comment on the super duper sports car handling it is reputed to have, as thankfully we did not take any turns of note.

Straight line acceleration is superior to the lightly modded '08 Corvette (~455bhp) I drove until a few months ago. The Caddy is something like 800lbs heavier than my Vette, but has 100 more hp. Dunno about the torque. I guess the added power is more than enough to make up for the weight difference though.

I'm still not totally wacky about the sharp edges on the exterior styling when you get up close. I wish GM would just shitcan stupid design language they adopted for Cadillac several years ago. When you back away maybe 10' from it though it's an awesome looking car. Aggressive looking as hell. Side view from several feet away it reminds me of a big cat sort of crouched forward ready to spring.

Interior is great. Awesome looking seats. Very high grade looking materials on the dash and doors. Well done. Probably not quite as rich looking as mom's SL, but close.

Worst case of car envy I've ever had.

it's fuckin' sick!

did you like the suede wrapped steering wheel?

I actually would compare the car to my old cbr 900rr or zx9r motorcycle. It accelerates hard just like my bikes, and the first time you actually mash the pedal it makes you dizzy for a split second cuz it snaps you back in the seat so hard.

I plan on buying one soon as lease returns start running through the auctions

He didn't even let me sit behind the wheel, so I guess it didn't make so much of an impression on me. I do remember I liked the gauge cluster look and arrangement.

That AT had better be robust because that engine is putting a serious hurtin on it. I think a significant part of that great acceleration was the efficiency of the transmission. Was there a manual sport shift mode on that thing, or does it just sense throttle position and snap off the shifts hard and stupid quick like that when you're lead footing it? My parents' subdivision is directly off a four-lane divided hwy and all we did was pull out into the road late in the evening and blast off. Drove to the next median break a half-mile down and blasted off in the other direction. I haven't read any reviews commenting on what it's like when you just drive it normally.

Yes, definitely the smart thing to do would be to just wait a while and get some lightly used b/c the dealer markup on these preorders is fucking retarded.

yeah,

it's a sick car...I putted around normally in it and it drove like a regular ole cts. That is until you crack open the throttle and you hear the engine wake up and the supercharger whine like cw after the jets lose a game.

wow that's even better. One of the things I really liked about the Corvette was if you drove it normally it just drove like a regular car.

couldnt help but lol at this.

the car is badass. i got to drive it on a race track, by far the best 4 door ive ever been in. also got to drive an is-f on the same course at a different event and the cts-v makes that car its bitch.

with that said a cts-v doesnt accelerate anything like a bike. its not even close.

yeah but how does it ride?? i actually don't like the luxury car ride of say a mercedes..or any of the caddy's

it doesn't inspire confidence in me...feels a little too slushy

is it responsive to the road?

well...plank was comparing it to a honda (most boring out of the box bike hands down) and a kawasucky

yeah...I gave up on cars being fast when I discovered bikes...or even handling twisties in a remotely similar fashion

too bad if I get another bike the husband will probably waffle himself on it *sigh*

its super responsive. stiff steering good suspension.

now see that i like because I have some road rage like wooaa...and need something very responsive

I'm sure it's got multiple ride settings given it's stellar track times. (It's WAY more than just a dragster Shirl) If it's suspension was that rock hard all the time it would be pretty miserable in daily driving. We were on a smooth, flat road with no potholes, so I couldn't tell you what setting my father had it on. Plank could answer this one.

I've been eyeballing those on eBay and CL... It's an incredible machine, and I'll want one as soon as they get to be a few years old, and someone else too the devaluation hit on one with low miles ;)

I love Cadillacs, and this is the first one they've come up with for true high-performance since the 400-hp 8.2 liter 1970 Eldorado. I had one of those, and kick myself for selling it. If I get one, I'll have the fastest and the slowest Cadillacs ever built. I have a 1982 Eldorado 5.7 Diesel.... 0-60 in 15 minutes (downhill with a tailwind, if you're a skilled driver).

oh sure...I like my bimmer's ride but say...hate the trucks..or the cheap dodges

I like a happy medium

issue is moot for me tho...not buyin any new cars anytime soon...gotta loose a cpl as it is

Unless you're an automotive journalist I can't imagine how you possibly would've had the opportunity to drive it on a race track.

I guess it depends on the person. its not too stiff for me. but my car is so stiff it catches air on small bumps haha. and 3 wheels on tight corners.

where I lived a few months ago...the local speedway would sell "track days"

pay the fee, sign a waiver...enjoy

the motorcycle days were funnest

My friends dad is a member of a country club/ race track where they have events where members and a few guests can drive the cars. i did isf and cts-v with him and his son. they have done probably like 15 other track days with mini cooper s's to lotus exiges.

lol@what?

0-60 on the cts-v is off the top of my head somewhere in the neighborhood of 3.7-3.9 sec

the bikes I listed are probably around 3-3.2 seconds

yeah, that's a huge fuckin difference you dickweed. Plus, when you're in a bigass car it feels every bit as fast as the bikes I mentioned.

0-60 is not a good comparison of speed.

my cbr goes faster in the 1/8th mile then a cts-v does in the quarter mile.

does 0-150 in the same time it takes a cts-v to do 0-100

does 0-100 and back to 0 faster then a cts-v can do just 0-100

basically if u wanna compare a car to a big motor bike the bugatti veyron is the only thing that has similar acceleration.

and no a cts-v doesnt feel anything like a sport bike when u are in it.

dude, it was a customer of mines car..I wasn't going to tear the shit out of it. 0-60 it feels just like a motorcycle.

Never once did I say it was faster than a bike, I said the acceleration reminded me of some of my older bikes. Which it does on the butt dyno when you're sitting in the car.

I wouldn't expect you to know what it feels like tho since you've never driven the car and are strictly going off what you saw on youtube and looked up on google.

lol are you literate? i have more experience in the car then you do. and have driven much faster cars then a cts-v.

actually...i mentioned it and he poo-pooed it (sort of)...i made a comment about motorboating shirl's boobs and she said something about built for speed or built for comfort and i made reference to the cts-v as beautiful example of both then plank said that i was calling shirl worthless with my caddy reference.

that is all.

carry on...

I think this is just poor attempt to redirect the convo to shirl's boobs.

Wonderful ride!

however, knot age appropriate for you

No chance of me ever getting to actually drive it, so sadly that's not a concern. He's got three (now four) really sweet rides that have been absolutely forbidden to me in all the time he's had them. I used to think "hey eventually he'll let me drive it" when the new wears off, but to car collectors I guess the new never wears off.

and subjectively it seemed like it continued to accelerate just as hard from 60-110 or so as it did up to 60. No doubt it wasn't but it sure so hell had to be close.
