Can't quit smoking.

I smoke too and it sucks, i want to quit and im thinkin bout nicotrol or whatever....my mom quit smoking over 6 years ago using that stuff

I've never smoked, so I can't know what you're going thru (ie withdrawls, etc) but would any type of mental imagery help??

In the past i have been able to quit smoking on my own. Like i said the ex didnt like me to smoke and nagged me about it all the time.....and maybe thats why i did it? i dont know......but i really need to stop
one reason is because of my health and im 35 now. My moms neighbor died from lung cancer

and the 2nd reason is that crap is an expensive habit

Well, smoking killed both my parents so I can tell you all about it if you'd like.....

My mom and dad both smoked and then they decided a few years ago to stop. My mom did quit but my dad started dipping skoal or some of that stuff....but now hes off both of them......maybe i should start dipping tobacco too lol


but seriously. Last year i went thru a terrible time that i wont get to on the board and i would sit at my parents house and smoke and drink diet coke....and i dropped 30 lbs fast.....and all my dad would tell me when he saw me smoke was
"Melinda, you know that dont help anything" not in a mean way or anything....he was just trying to help me. He also wanted to make me feel better

I'll never forget the picture of my dad sitting at the kitchen table, on oxygen cuz he had bad emphysema, with the tube going up his nose & smoking a cigarette....

Oh i kknow it can happen to me...and i know what people go thru with emphysema it sucks for them. Dang Jen maybe you will be my mentor on stopping smoking. I hadnt really REALLY thought about stopping until i started reading this thread. I KNOWWWWWWW my kids hate it espeically my oldest. He always acts like he cant breathe and stuff when i smoke...I shouldnt let my despise for the ex to kill me.....for sure

Well....it's so damned bad for you -- the health risks are enormous....plus secondhand smoke has been linked to asthma in children + numerous other health issues.....

My mother's pulmonary surgeon told us that anyone who continues to smoke or is around secondhand smoke for long periods is GUARANTEED to give you emphysema....just think of that --> look what you're doing to your kids' health....

exactly and i have 3 so im afraid at least one will start smoking. I started and my brother didnt. He hates it. I know one time he told me that his wife sneaks and smokes but he knows lol
the thing is.......grrrrr hammy smokes and he smokes alottttt and i have tried talking to him bout quitting but he wont
and i think its harder on him when he lifts too

I think you really truley in your heart have to want to stop. Have you tried the hypnotizing way?

Too true daisy. I smoked for about 25 years. tried to quit for variouse reasons many times but until I decided to quit "for me" it never worked. I personaly just decided not to buy any more ciggs and bought a shit load of tootsy pops put on a couple pounds that I am now trying to get rid of but it was worth it!

Congrats on quitting. I hope you picked the chocolate tootsy pops - those are the best ones! Hehe. And better to have a few extra pounds (which you can lose) than lung cancer, emphysema, or any of the future health complications that can arise from smoking.
