Can you fry stuff with flax oil

Grapeseed oil. It has a very high burn point so you can use it for most types of frying. eggs should be cooked at a low temp anyways so flaxseed oil is okay for eggs.

no you cant use flax oil for frying, it brakes down when exposed to heat, one of the reasons that it has to be refrigerated

I am going to have to call bull crap...and just to prove it in the morning I am going to cook some over hard eggs in flax oil take pics and post them up.

Okay, technically yes, you can fry things in flaxseed oil, but it's fucking stupid. The oil is very fragile and extremely expensive. You shouldn't even buy flaxseed oil that's been stored unrefrigerated.

The entire point of paying (on average) $0.75 per ounce is to get the health benefits. You can find many, many other oils that are much less expensive for cooking. Flax oil should be used like a condiment. If your flax oil doesn't have a sweet, nutty flavor that would make it a nice accompaniment to a dish then PITCH IT, it's rancid.

But don't take my word for it:

I was only pointing out the one simple fact that "yes you can cook with it"

but yes you are right on the rest.

Needtogetaas and I were making the same point. You can cook with it. When cooking I only use it for salad dressing. For actual cooking it is cheaper and easier to use other natural oils. Grapeseed oil can be used for any frying including deep frying since it has a very high burnpoint (and a very clean taste which is good for delicate meats and eggs). Walnut and hazelnut oils add a great nutty taste to fish but have a lower burn point. I use these oils to rub on fish when I am baking. Point is, there are a lot of natral oils which are healthy sources of fats and add great flavor to food. If you want the pure health benefits don't cook the oil (same with eggs). If you like the flavor of the oil then use it but be aware of the burn point.

Great info on cooking with natural oils, Kroger has a great selection of natural oils that are cheaper than Wholefoods.
