Can someone please explain this MRI report to me?

Can someone please explain this MRI report to me? My doctor went over it with me but I just want to hear what you fellas think:

FINDINGS: There has been interval development of interstitial tear with tendon delamination of the posterior fibers of the distal supraspinatus tendon and the anterior fibers of the distal infraspinatus tendon extending from the musculotendinous junction to their insertion on the greater tuberosity. The interstitial tears are superimposed on changes of supraspinatus and infraspinatus tendinosis. There is no full thickness supraspinatus or infraspinatus tendon tear at this time and no clearcut extension of the interstitial tear to the bursal surface or infraspinatus tendon tear at this time and no clear cut extension of the interstitial tear to the bursal surface or to the articular surface at this time.

IMPRESSION: Interval development of interstitial tear with tendon delamination involving the posterior fibers of the distal supraspinatus tendon and the anterior fibers of the distal infraspinatus tendon extending from the musculotendinous junction to their insertion on the greater tuberosity. There is no full thickness rotator cuff tear and no clearcut extension of the interstitial tear to the articular surface or the bursal surface at this time.

It says "There has been interval development of interstitial tear with tendon delamination..." What does 'interval development' mean? What does 'tendon delamination' mean? It also says "The interstitial tears are superimposed on changes of supraspinatus and infraspinatus tendinosis." What does 'superimposed' mean?

In addition to these questions, can you guys please explain this MRI report to me?

Also, based on this MRI report, should this be causing my shoulder to be in extreme pain when I do these motions and strength tests?:

It also KILLS if I do these motions (with NO weight):

One last thing. I used to be into amateur boxing so I've thrown punches recently to see which ones hurt. When I throw punches right now I can pretty much throw them with some pain but not excruciating. HOWEVER, there is one punch that puts me in EXCRUCIATING LEVEL 10 PAIN...and that is when I throw an uppercut.

Can someone explain why when I throw an uppercut I'm put in EXCRUCIATING LEVEL 10 PAIN but when I throw other punches it doesn't hurt as bad? Is that consistant with the MRI findings? Don't get me wrong when I throw other punches it hurts like hell but NOTHING compared to when I throw an uppercut.

hey bro, don't know if i can help but i recently had rotator cuff/proximal bicep tendon surgery. i had tendon tears, it sounds like your tendons are not torn but tendon delamination, inflamed tendinitis. the first 3 motions are what hurt for me, - rotator cuff but the 4th motion, a row seems like it would be your supraspinatus, trap.
it would be common for someone who works out vigorously - boxing and the upper cut would be common too
ask your doc to explain it in english or get a second opin.
i used to box also.

You must have had an MRI in the past of the same body part and this current MRI is being compared to that one. The interval would be the time interval. What they're saying is that in the time interval since you LAST had that body part imaged this condition has cropped up.

Delamination means a peeling away of a layer. I've never heard that specific term, but I'm going to GUESS that they are saying that the tendon is peeling away, either from the bone where it attaches or from the muscle.

I didn't think tendons fail this way but it might also mean a layer of the tendon is peeling up. No matter what, something is peeling up, think laminate countertops, same sort of thing.

Superimposed means (basically) "on top of" or "in addition to." So it's saying that the tendon problem is happening on top of other problems that you've already had or also have.

If you will look at this diagram, #7 and #8 are the muscles/tendons in particular that are being dealt with:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/infraspinatus

Those muscles (supraspinatus and infraspinatus) are responsible for rotation of and stabilization of your upper arm, as well as moving your arm AWAY from the center of your body. An uppercut is an explosive movement that involves all of those actions simultaneously, ergo, it hurts like a motherfucker.

I'm not a doctor so there may be someone who knows a lot more than me coming in here and correcting me but it'll get you started, at least.

The bottom line is you have a rotator cuff injury (two of the four muscles/tendons are injured). I would strongly advise you not to do any movements that would aggravate the condition (shoulder exercises, benches, etc.) as the partial tears can become complete tears that will leave you severely debilitated.

I hope you are seeing an orthopedic surgeon for this as often times surgery is required to fix this.
