Can anyone Reccomend a good Chest routine? Hopefully it would be geared toward gaining strength, I dont' care about size...thanksguys

Why do you need strength in your chest?

let us know what for....then we can help you. maybe ask
on the training board though. many people here only have strong chests as a side beifit of being a good benchpresser

I too want to be a good bench presser, I want my bench press max to go up, it is for football. I didn't want to ask on the training board because I feel it's less geared toward raw strength than the powerlifting board, but hey I may be wrong :) , plus the fact that Bench pressing is a cornerstone of Powerlifting (i think?) anyways, I have football starting in August and I need to get stronger. I got a lower body program and I'm also using some strength shoes.

Most powerlifters (ok, I should just speak for myself) do not use chest as the primary movers in their bench. I use triceps, shoulders, and lats to bench, although my chest still gets worked by the nature of it being a compound move.

A simple form change might leave you with the realization that you're already stronger than you think. :)

Holy crap spatts, that's tight! I'm hella excited now! So is there any info you can share with me or resources I could check up on to find out what you're talking about?

When i max on bench press i keep my middle finger on the little markers on the bar(or a bit wider than shoulder width) and keep my elbows as much in line with my shoulders as possible. Is there anything you can help with on what I just told you? Thanks alot!

I have recently started doing cambered bar bench. If your just wanting to tear your chest up try adding some sets of that into your workout. Be careful as not to tear anything. You going soo much farther down on your bench its really easy to get hurt. I receomend going lite for a week or to 2 get use to doing them but I promise you you will like the way they feel. Also, if you do them and its hurting to touch your chest, get a board or 2 and stick under it. Keep you from going as far but still farther than a flat bench.

A cambered bar is a bar with a large gap so that you can come farther on your chest. The middle of the bar is bent allowing your arms to come down past your chest. We made one. Buddy of mine took a piece of conduit to work and bent it to the right size or you can buy a new one. I love them but you definately need to be careful with one or you can get hurt. We have never had any problem out of them, just one hell of a workout. Just make sure if you get one its not comming down so far that you do hurt yourself. If so get a couple boards. I know George Halbert uses one but he only goes an inch farther down on his. Get one and try it out with light weight and see how far you can go with it. You will like it I promise.
