Can anyone advise on Depot birth control for me?

My girlfriend just got it. Trouble is the nurse can't administer is until 2 weeks!

I've done cycles before so know how to inject and the gf wants me to do it for her but thought I would ask here first as it's not Test now is it :qt:

Apparently it should go in a fatty area of the backside but just want a bit of clarification on this lol.

It's Depot Provera - Medoxyprogesteron Acetate.

Any help is much apprecitated.

Why did she choose Depo? Generally speaking, lots of women have trouble w/ weight gain, water bloat, etc. from it because of the dosing of the estrogen.

Can't help you with the injection stuff. Not sure I'd recommend trying to do it w/o a nurse to do it. If you are just interested in pushing up the time table so that you can get down to the business of "non-pregnant sex", keep in mind that most if not all birth control will take at least a month to get become "reliable" - i.e. it takes a complete monthly cycle for the body to acclimate to the artificial estrogen control before it is "reliable" as a pregnancy preventative. My OB/Gyn always told me to use a back-up method (e.g. condom) for the first month adjusting to a new pill / dosage and same if I happened to screw up and forget to take a daily pill.

But generally I wouldn't even recommend using depo as a b/c method.

Word to everything Sassy said my personal epxerience with depo I would NEVER advise another woman to EVER take it there are way more people that have had problems with it then people that haven't. Get her to chose another method of BC.

While there are people who have fine experiences with Depo, there are WAY more that have trouble with it. Most common problems are weight gain (like 10-15lbs) and complete loss of sex drive. I don't think it is something I will EVER try.

If I were you, I would wait the 2 weeks for the nurse to do it. This is something that could have SERIOUS repercussions if you do not do it correctly and EXACTLY as recommended. Two weeks of annoyance is MUCH better than a lifetime of caring for an unwanted child.

personally i think that the depo is worthless....like previously stated there is people out there who have had no problems.....from my point of view it is terrible, i used it for almost 2 years i gained weight, messed up my cycle so it was backwards, had cramps all the time, and lost the desire for sex....
if you guys are in fact going to do it i would wait and have the nurse do it. you can mess it up by injecting wrong and it not working or causing complications..
imo- there are other methods out there

didn't we have like the exact thread last week?

I used it once and bleed for 6 months straight I totally dont recommend it... It was given to me in the shoulder like a normal shot but if I were you I would wait for the nurse and take the time to do a little more research on it....

Thanks for the replies.

Looks like I will leave it to those in the know.

Can you recommend any other forms other than condoms....she doesn't like the pill!

i looked into the ring too but was a bit turned away when they had told me that it may come out from time to time and that i could put it back in myself! lol i am all set with another ooopsy baby..
i personally have a IUD...there are 2 types there is the minerva which has the same hormones as the depo, which i did not know when i got mine inserted....the other one i am not to sure of the name but it has less hormone so that you ownt gain weight wont have much side effects like depo...
if you guys have a lot of sex i would say to not go with the pill......i found out the hard way, and plus with the pill if you take any antibiotics it makes it so the pill is not as effective resulting in pregnancy......so far out of all of them i would either do the ring or the "non" hormonal IUD
