I am 22 years old, and I have just started working out the past month. I have tried several diets over the past year, at this time I am just trying to eat veggies, and meats. Other than that I really don't know what is appropriate for me. I am 5 ft, about 105lbs (not sure of body fat) and my goal is to just get healthy. I have strength (I tote an 11 month old, and a 3 year old around) but, I have no muscle definition. I have spent the last 3 years of my life either pregnant or nursing a baby. Now, I am ready to spend some time working on me. My husband is a HUGE man and he has been heaving lifting for years. He is trying to help, but he knows little about a female workout. I go to the gym 5 to 6 days a week. I spend about an hour there, then come home and run on my treadmill for about 30 minutes. Then spend the rest of the night chasing around my very active boys. I have been reading posts for the past couple days, and I guess I am just looking for some tips on how I should be eating, and how I should mix up my workout. All advice will be much appreciated. Just in case it matters, I take Synthroid daily for a completely non functioning thyroid, (even with meds-very hard to loose my baby weight), and I have started taking a diet pill called Lean Balance mainly because it has lots of vitamins, and no caffeine.

Thanks in Advance,
Rainbo

Hi there - the best resource I know of to start out 'right' is Body for Life by Bill Phillips, and best of all, it is very easy to find. It has the mind, diet and training all in one easy to read package - very easy for anyone to get started on. Don't bother with Body for Life for Women though - fluffy and not really organized, the original is much better. OH, and you really don't have to use the EAS supps he recommends to get good results!

A more advanced resource is Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle, an e-book by Tom Venuto. I'd advise starting with BFL though, since BFFM is quite detailed.

It's great that your man is into the lifestyle - will make it much easier for you!

I'm not familiar with the issues around thyroid, but I'd just try a standard training/diet regime to start with, see how it works, then tweak as necessary to get the results you want!

Good to see you and good fortune on your quest!
