what can I expect and can you more experienced folk give me some pointers in these
K given for good advice
thanks

congrats on making the commitment to learning these two fine and complimentary arts. My suggestions would be to give every workout 100% and constantly drill the basics. Like anything else the stronger your base is the farther you can go in the art. Be patient and always take criticism as constructive. Always spar with those better than you and you will improve. Be humble and don't think about being a black belt in 1, 2 years or whatever. Focus on learning the forms and techniques and make them work for you. Both require a certain amount of flexibility so when you are sitting around watching TV stretch, stretch, stretch and then stretch some more whenever you get a chance.

Most of all - don't give up. Maintain your focus and discipline and positive things will happen.

cheers man
it all went well I did both class's but was well fucked at the end' grappling 3 mins is a long time when you trying to pull eachothers arms and legs off but Im hooked, I loved it, I was complemented on my steanth and speed in the grappling but my thai boxing needs some serious work for some reason I found it hard to combine both hands and feet blocking and attacking but you cant become good at somthing overnight took years to get good streanth I sure itll take even longer to get good skills
and as for the streaching fuck me the guy says do this streach and hold for 30 seconds fuck that more like 10 ..lol
yes there work to be done
btw I got up this morning and my big toe is rather sore ,never mind

You will learn soon that that is 'GrapplerSpeak' for : "Your Technique Sucks !" ;)

When I first started grappling it took my body a couple of months to get used to the workouts. I do cardio on a regular basis (running, elliptical, bike, stairmaster) but I was winded after 10 minutes on the mat. Give your body some time to get used to the different requirements of pushing, pulling and twisting that you will experience on the mats.

As far as your Muay Thai coordination, it just takes time. You will strggle for a while and then ' bam ' things will click and start to feel well coordinated. Be patient - keep up the good work.

Man - 1392477 just keeps coming at ya w/ wisdom - give him the K brotha....

When I started training Muay Thai I felt like a 1 footed man w/ 2 left hands. 1392477 is correct in it coming to you like a light switch. Watching real Thai fights and watching them has helped me tons. Again, at is has been said, frequet practice is key - try to box 3-4 times a week min.

Its muay thai first tonight so I might do a bit better but the grappling at the end is going to kill me ...cant wait

First off - congrat againon taking up a tremendous couple MA's. With that said............... if your instructor can't tap you in about 30 seconds he is not worth a crap. Taht is a fact. I train under a black belt, and out weight him by at least 80lbs, and he can punk me all day long.

if your instructor couldn't tap you in your first class you may need to look eslewhere for grappling instruction

maybe he was taking it easy (it was my first time there)I would have got tapped out if we had gone for any leanth of time but for the 3-4mins we grappled I "thought" I did well, Ive done a bit of boxing and judo before so Im not a total beginner
he made up for this when we went into the stricking we made me look like a clumsy fool ,

x2.

my instructor toys with ppl. he would give up arms..legs.. etc etc and present oppoortunities to see how well u can use escapes and subs he taught in class- and how quickly they come to you. he will just keep doing that untill you make a mistake, then slowly, slowly apply the sub- giving u plenty of time to tap. he wont attack anything unless you make a mistake and feed it to him. really cool in sparring. its funny when 1st timers are like "hey i almost tapped the instructor!" and everyone just smiles and pats them on the shoulder.

that sounds about right.lol..never mind it made me feel good
My stamina sucks Im used to short busts of power in the gym and lift some pretty heavy wieghts but this is a differant ball game I watch the dvds and been to a few fights to watch and I thought I can do that, can I fuck!
I was very much into the size and power of body building and power lifting but now Its turned ,Ive scrapped all my mass cycles(no more dbol :worried: )
and have decided to go down the streanth and stamina road,Ive got some major changes to do if I want to be any good at this

dont feel bad
no one starts with good grappling and striking stamina
I mean you can take a boxer and stick him in a bjj class and he'll feel like he's never worked out before and you can whip it around and do the same thing the other way
only striking (sparring heavybag shadoboxing) is goign to help you with striking stamina
and only rolling (or some rolling drills) are going to hep you with grappling stamina
there is some carry over between the two but not enough that you can just roll and expect your boxing/kicking stamina to get better
so dont feel bad on the stamina thing I'm iffy on the instructor thing tho
I guess if it was the first time it's possible he was testing you mentally and seeing what kind of mentality you have on the ground
but relativly few instructors have the level of ability to watch you for what you naturally do and create a style around you
but if you found a school like that stick with it please

when you say rolling drills could you give me some more info
cheers
yes, I can see myself doing this for some time, there again tonight, I can feel myself sweating and gasping for air already..lol

with striking stuff I can describe drills
with grappling I don't know how to describe what is done
do you know what bear crawls are?
or bear walks I forget

Thanks man,
Ive been doing sprawls at home ,Ive got a punch bag so I sprawl ,jump up,do a quick combo on the bag and sprawl again ,doing this fucks me up after 10-12 good quick sprawls.I do them in sets untill I cant do any more ,have a min to catch my breath then repeat ,I do this untill I can only manage 3 good sprawls(doesnt take long ;) )
Ill get my teacher to show me the other drills you mentioned

yah I didn't think of shrimping good call
bridging might not be a bad idea either
and bellying out
also there is this 'crab' thing where you switch from like being on all fours to being on all fours with your belly up then being on all fours with your back up again
that's hard to describe

I just thought Id say all is going well and my skills have gone through the roof I can do things a didnt think possable for me I can kick and puch well together do head kicks, combos of all kinds, locks, bars, choke hold, its fucking great stuff, that fucking triangles nasty!
the only down side is the pain! fuck me my sholders and elbows take a beating when grappling ,I much fitter than when I started and I even go out jogging, which Ive never done before
all in all Id say Ive made a HUGE impovment and thought I boast a bit..lol
