Any boxers in here?

Instead of the old run of the mill cardio, i like to box.

i have a speedbag, heavy bag, kickboxing bag. Big room.

any boxers out there?

Im thinking of this for the day...

5mins, jumping rope.
5mins, hitting the heavy bag
5mins, hitting the speedbag
5mins, jumping rope

then

Put the gloves on and have sparring session with w/o buddy. Not a real sparring session, just the one where he has the padding on his hands and i jab jab hook, and he swings at me, i duck. and keep going untill fatigued.

Any other suggestions?

if you can go 5 minutes straight jump roping god bless!!!

i used to box for a few years but then gave it up b/c i was getting my a$$ kicked my little mexicans in the gym i went to and i also wanted to concentrate more on strength training.

the routine i used to use is 3 minutes jump and 1 minute rest. i did 3 rounds like that...then i did 3 rounds of shadow boxing...then 3 rounds of speed bag...then 3 rounds of heavy bag. by the end of the workout you'll be dead!

nice.

i would rather do some muscle buidling cardio, then muscle wasting.

nice idea about the rounds. I can do that! In fact i can do that and increase my rounds weekly.

Thanks bro.i love figthing, i will there were good MMA teachers around me.

i suggest that too... it's the same routine my boxing friends do which i did a couple times aswell... works well... try it

jpt is right on - very typical boxing workout. If you have someone to work the mitts great, and someone to do timing with (50-75% speed sparring) then ever better.

My only disagreement is on the jumprope. Where I box (Muay Thai) the workout is as follows: 2 mile run (about 15 mintues), 15-30 min Jumprope (no stopping really), 2 rounds stretching, 1 round heavy bag, 1 round double bag, 2 rounds heavy bag, 1 round double bag, 2 rounds speed bag, 3 rounds pads, 2 rounds timing. We also do a lot of form work aftert he class - like holding a fot jab, or working of specific combos/counters. I like to mix between the heavy bag and double bag as the later rounds you are really loose/warm.

It is very hard, but like everything else you get used to the workload.

thanks bro,

seriously wow, that has to be taxing as hell.

oout of curiosity tho, whats a double bag?

I really like that above routine, sounds really good.

might also put the mats down and do some floor work my partner really is into it. and he only weighs 160, so i can toss him around alittle. lol

Double Bag - http://store.everlastboxing.com/everlast-double-end-bags.html

Basically the double end bag is attached tot he floor and ceiling. When you hit it it comes back at you. I can work up a tremendous sweat on this bag, but 3 minutes can seem like a lifetime on any bag - hell for that matter shadow boxing.

Also - I would reccomend, if you do not have a coach or workout in a teraditional boxing gym, to get some videos by Freddie Roach or if you want to Thai box get Janjira Saeksons. Form is so important.

Thanks AL!

MM, have you checked out any MMA or BJJ schools in the Queens area? Grappling is a killer workout and burns a shitload of calories. Thai boxing too if they have some good teachers in your area.

Direct quote from my Thai gyms home page:

"Real Men Stand Up"

Couldn't agree moer w/ alex though - a good teacher is key if you want to get any better.

About the MMA schools, ive researched them but cant seem to find any. Especially not with any reputable teachers. All no-name guys around me.

Im in queens, NY. most good gyms are far out in long island.

Thanks for the help guys.

I like that quote " Real men stand up " i love seeing 2 fighters go at it standing up. And that would probably be more of my style too.

Ill keep looking for a good school esp since i know i would need hands on teaching.

thanks to u guys and your ideas!

:lmao: Yeah no kidding. I grew up with stand up styles and traditional martial arts and all you see nowadays is grappling and wrestling. So I did jump on the bandwagon I guess and get into that. I still love to see strikers winning MMA matches though. lol

Yeah - I love to see someone catch a shin kick to the face - or two guys in a good thai clinch kneeing each other guts out - gotta love it

MM - you gotta find a place to train - it is more than cardio as was said in the post above. Today, for example, was a hour of defensive drills - It was some fun shit - boxing w/ your bros is at the top of my list. I have trip to Thailand planned for November but may not make it now - if I do it will be to train at a Fairtex camp - so hopefully it all works out.
