box squats

Forgive my ignorance, I would like to know more about box squatting... at 5'10" is a bench too high to use? There are no boxes at my gym... I have found sites of guys powerlifting [I presume] doing box squats so I understand what to do, I just want to know how low to go... or not to go

cheers

Depends on the height of your leg (ankle to knee to hip crease) and the height of the bench (no they're not all the same). I generally only do box squats, unless I'm testing.

k - so from the ankle to the top of my bent knee I get 18" and from the knee to the hip crease it's 20" [outer leg]
have to check on the bench height tomorrow....

makedah... that idea sounds brilliant! I just need to figure out how high to go...

Sorry, knee crease. Ankle, to back of knee to crease of hip. When an imaginary line from the back of your knee to the crease of your hip is parallel to the floor...that's the height the box should be. So for the purposes of building a box, it's the height from the floor to this plane.
