Box squats for the 1st time!!!!!

i just started wsb training and today i did box squats for the 1st time and loved them. omg, why haven't i started this along time ago. and the one leg sqats, that killed my hams . i can barely walk. man i love this feeling. .:chomp:

Congrats!!! I like box squats as well and they are part of my training program.

I always have to force my self to sick back. What was the height of your box?
 
[stupid noob qustion] How do box squats differ from regular squats other than the fact that your squatting to a box? [/stupid noob question]
 
They put alot more stress on other muscle groups(glutes/hams) and your hip flexers as well, and obviously less stresss on your quads.
 
The quads still get hit hard, just not isolated and at the price of your knee. In fact, learning to recruit more hammie stength will help to protect your knee. Yet another reason PLing is safer than people think (let's see....reason 4,862 ;) ).
 
i just used those aroebic steppers. i stacked 4 high and that was about 2-3 in below parallel for me.(i'm short) omg. i can barely walk this morning, my glutes are killin me. and the reverse hypers killed my back. i didnt think they would be much diff than regular hypers, damn i was wrong.
 
i started doing these too, and I love em....easy on the knees...especially when you have a bad one, because your knees certainly stay behind your toes.

right now I am doing up to 255 for sets of 5...think the box is about 18" os so.
 
I performed box squats last night. My hips are trashed big time. I also have extreme fatigue in the quads, hams, and buttocks.

Overall, great exercise!
 
I'm glad you pointed that out LS. We had Notorious QQ from the chat board training with us last night, and he expressed concern that his intentions are geared more toward BB than PL, and wasn't sure if box squats were going to work his quads hard enough.

I prefer to think of it as INCLUDING the hams/glutes/hips/core, as opposed to EXCLUDING the quads. The quads STILL do alot of work, it's just not as isolated.
 
Yes...I can really feel it in my quads especially when I add in bands...

I really miss the boxes nate made...some knucklehead at the gym threw them out...guess we better make another run to Lowe's!

just grab a couple of those aerobic steps, worked great for me;)
