bors, How many times can you bench 225?

I might get two with it.

The last time I tried that (years ago!!!) I did 23 reps and weighed around 220 lbs. Endurance has never been my strong suit.

Don't do the BB lately. Hurts joints. Incline DB 110's for 8-10. Weigh in the 240's right now. Never could bench for shit. Friggin long arms.

Don't know. Don't flat bench. Let me know when ya get to 315 incline for 5-6. That's where I'm at.

Somebody asked how many times guys could squat 225 on another board. Somebody said 40 reps. He was a strong dude but I give him 28 before he passes out from exhaustion.

That's a mighty good incline....I never did much incline bench...always did dumbells up til the past two months. I managed to work my way up to 275 for 8 reps, but that's still kinda shitty.

Chest is my weakest excercise. I can't seem to break through on it...

I can do 225 for 4 or 5 on a good day. I weigh 183, about 8-9% bf....

I should be putting up more than that.

Thanks bor, it took me quite a while to get there.

Back when I was training for reps at 225, my best was 34 with my regular competition-width grip, and 23 close-grip. My max bench in competion at that time was 429.7 Raw (no bench shirt). Now I'm not conditioned for high reps so I doubt I could still do that many, but I'm stronger at the top end and my Raw bench is in the 455 range. It's fun to compare your reps at 225 with what the NFL lineman can do, but it's humbling when compared to Ronnie Coleman's 70 reps (or whatever it was). I weigh 215, but I'd like to get back down to the 198 class where I belong.

hope to do a few reps of 225 by may. last time i hit a PR it was 200x3. that was the end of november. today i worked 175 5x5. dunno if i could hit 225 currently or not. i might be good for 1.

oh, forgot to add weight. i think i'm between 165-170 right now. dunno how much of that i'm carrying in the middle, maybe 2-3lbs.

Hit 315 for 16 the other day after workout... weighed in at 258... I think someone might have a vid if there are non believers...

I am sure there are at least a few dudes here who can beat it...

Yep, always natty... BF not that high - maybe 10-15%? all I know is I what I weigh and I have abs showing pretty clear.... There is a golds that just opened near by and they are offering free bf measuring and workouts for a week, so I was thinking of going by for the f of it (yeah I know it is probably crappy calipers)

ive done, 30 (testing for scouts)... used to do 315 for 10's but these days im at 8

Never juiced, think the fact im not eating makes me weaker even though i lift.

bests of 430 bench and 405 incline in my prime @ 21-22

My roomate in college did 72 reps at 225 on squats. They have his name up on a plaque at the gym there.

Last time I tried I got 27 reps on bench. That was 3 years ago and I weight 260.

Cheers,
Scotsman

At 185lbs 225x24 was my best, but I think I wouldve been good for 27 at my peak 3 months ago, before injuring my back. My bench went up by 3 reps and never tested 225 again. I was more interested in hitting 275x20 since I was already at 15. Cant wait to get past this injury. May be a while!

I`m in the 230`s and can honestly say I`ve never attempted to bench 225 with a barbell.

best Ive done is 16 when I was 185. I havent tried it in over a year though

Ive had more then a few years experience with weighing 185! haha My measurements and strength have increased drastically even at this bodyweight and BF% seems around the same its always been, so Im not sure why that is. If I could maintain 6000 calories a day and 400 grams of protein Im sure Id grow faster, but thats not in my budget and human flesh is scarce where I live.

Seriously, the most I can recall doing was 17-18...that was usually on the downside of a chest workout after going up to 315.

27 reps last year with 225. Since I tore my pec muscle, I will probably never bench with free weight again, except maybe dumbbells.

 Fuck a plaque they should have named the gym after him........

72 reps at any weight on squats is amazing........I'd be willing to bet 90% of this board couldn't squat parallel with the bar for 72 reps...... :)

Well, I'm going to be honest here and admit that I CAN'T GET 225 UP ONCE ON THE FLAT BENCH!

My best is 190 for one at 178 lbs. My chest has always been weak, it's my hardest body part to gain on. But hell, a year ago my max was 145 for one so it's improving, just not quickly enough.

Forge.

Work on improving your back / tri / shoulder work first. Half of a big bench comes from this work.

It all adds up. Just got to be patient. And keep training hard!

I’ll tell you what worked for me. I’ve been lifting seriously for over three years now. For a year I lifted each body part once per week and trained every body part including calfs, biceps and triceps. I gained some strength but not much, I kept hitting the wall. I tried HST for four months but really didn’t progress much on it.

Then about 8 months ago I changed my routine completely. I now lift only heavy compound movements like bench, bar rows, deads, squat, chins, dips, mil press, and crunches. I started with a weight for each exercise that I could put up fairly easy for 2 sets of 8 and I’ve simply added small increments of weight each week. No isolation work at all. It seems to be working. It’s not a fast way to high poundages, but oh well I’m in for the long haul anyway.

I also have low test levels. Gear would help me IMMENSELY but I prefer not to go that route. I also overtrain very easily so I have to keep the volume low. I think I got the shit end of the stick when it comes to genetics. To be honest, I kind of like the challenge though; if I gained like a weed with little effort then this iron game would kind of lose it’s appeal for me.

What he said.

I think the most I've ever done was a triple with 225...never tried to do more. That was at about 190-195 or so.

My bench is way off lately, so I dunno what I could do now.

Well, I just stepped onthe scale and weigh a whopping 168lbs at 5'8".

Not bad, considering I once wieghed <140 lbs.

I may be able to pump out 15 reps of 225. Today is chest day, so I'll see what I can do.

I have squatted over 400 and deadlifted over 400 at 170lbs bodyweight.

sounds good bro, but FYI I can only hit low 400's for a couple reps on incline!

what auction is it? Barret Jackson was back in Jan.... all high end or some regular stuff too?

4 years ago I could get 225 for 23 reps at 170. I haven’t worked out in about 7 months, but the last time I did I hit 225 on incline for 15. I don’t know how much I weigh, around 190. I haven’t done flat bench in about a year

Not Barrett Jackson........that's not really an auction as much as it is a place for rich old dudes to go and make themselves feel..........well.....richer.

This is the Manheim Dealer's auction there's one every week......this is just the exotic sale at the end of the month........

ah- dealer auction.... what are the price ranges on the exotics? regular or ridiculous? keep in mind I live in scottsdale, so lambos and maseratis and stuff are an everyday thing for me to see (not that I have one or will anytime soon)

I used to go/work the dealer auctions one summer with an uncle of mine that was in the car biz in chicago back in the day.... cool stuff...

I tried this last night, haven't done bench with Bar-bell in a long time.

Did 22, this was after doing Dumbell inclines and declines.
