bolt more impressive then phelps?

winner of 100 and 200 meter sprints and world record holder of both.

I would say so. the worlds fastest man right there. blew away the field in the 200 and that 200 meter record was supposed to stand for years and years

phelps is a badass but not nothin like bolt

agree?

I think phelps is the greatest olympian of all time.

Well, for me, Phelps is great...but not as great as Spitz. Sure, he's got more medals; but Spitz did it with a mustache ride.

spitz could have won 8 if they had 8 events?

so many ppl in this world run the 100 meter dash. it is the main track and field event and has been around forever. think how many ppl run 100m and 200m dash compared to swimming

not everyone has the chance to even try swimming

the 200 meter dash was really not ment to be broken anytime soon

says who? these guys are juiced to the gills. the times are continually beat down. track and field is a joke. if you dont know what these people do to get those times, i would probably be amazed too. but i do know, and its comical.

your boy won 2 medals? phelps has 8. id say phelps has him.

lol @ a jamaican not having the chance to swim

Both are impressive. I was extremely impressed at the margin of victory for the Jamaican... Not even close...Amazing.

Yeah but he's blaque and this olympics is all about the whites. He has to wait til next time.

NBC needs to make a national hero - don't get in their way. Too bad after the olympics no one will give a shit aobut a SWIMMER!

Like muslims, they live in the sand:whatever:

The 100m sprint always has been and always will be the marquee event of the Olympics. Bolt is the man as far as I'm concerned, as I could care less about swimming. Phelps was incredible, but swimming ain't the sprints.

exactly it

plus he isnt white or american so he doesnt mean much to nbc like phelps does

i'm gonna have to go with the underdog, bolt.
coming from such a small country, cheers to him

How could you begin to even "quantify" their athletic brilliance for comparative reasons? They are both superb athletes.

A small country with a very serious track program. Jamaicans are cleaning up the mens and womens sprint events.
pfff big time bro..and usa was dominating these a few years ago .. big turn around

agree?

Disagree. You have to consider the endurance it took for phelps to do what he did, as WELL as speed. He swam in a retarded number of races and qualifiers in a short short period of time. No, he didn't sprint swim, but he beat the best swimmers in the world again and again and again, sometimes racing twice in an hour. What bolt did was amazing, what phelps did was amazing, and for entirely different reasons...both where incredibly impressive athletic feats that stand separate.

3rd gold and 3rd world record.

Yep i think he is more impressive just because he's so much better than everyone else. He makes it look easy.

The times are continually beat down in track and field? Bolt beat a world record that has stood since 1996 (200m) and another that has stood since 1992 (4X100) with his teammates.

How many world records were set in the pool in just this Olympics?

Yeah.

Would phelps have won with a mustache ride, shaggy hair and the skin tight suit?

I don't think so.

That fag couldn't suck Spitz cock without choking on it.

Well said

They said the 400m might be Bolt's best race. I agree that it very well could be with his top end speed. So, if Bolt comes out the next olympics and wins the 100m, 200m, and the 400m, breaks his own 100m record and sets a new 400m record, all which seems to be a real possibility, then that will be a spectacular showcase.

Maybe with all that endorsement money, Phelps can go get his teeth fixed.
He looks like a Great White Shark.

Fuck him...I'm sick of the media telling us who should be our hero's.

Bolt is the fastest man on the planet.

...and Fuck Mark Spitz too. He's selling Botox now !!!

.

How can you say someone that won 2 medals and broke 2 records is better than someone that won 8 golds and broke what, 7 world records?

Phelps by a long way!!!!

Wrong. This Olympics is all about the rise of COMMUNISM!!

i just find a human being able to run at those insane speeds more impressive.. nothing to do with medal count ..

Bolt gets third gold as Jamaica sets world record in relay

BEIJING -- Three races. Three wins. Three world records

The Jamaican team celebrates another gold for the country, third for Usain Bolt. (AP)
OK, so Usain Bolt won't take home eight gold medals from these Olympics, the way Michael Phelps did. That's simply because there weren't enough races.

bolt isn't even that fast. i would like to see him out run stilleto and smurfy to the all you can eat buffet. he couldn't, until then, he needs to calm down.

No he's not. Phelps has won gold in two consecutive Olympics.

Al Oerter and Carl Lewis in four consecutive Olympics.

Also Britain's Sir Steve Redgrave won 5 Gold medals over 5 Olympics...from 1984-2000.

But Bolt will be the guy everyone remembers in years to come...Phelps' acheivement was great but Bolt doesn't have the chance to run the same distance over many different strokes. He's so much better than the rest of the field that he looks like he could win whenever he wants.

They asked bolt if he thought he was better than phelps and Bolt called him phillips lol.

the two could be compared if phelps had only swam the 50 and the 100.........phelps swam everything. Bolt would have to compete in the 100, 200, 400, 800 etc. to have the same overall round out of phelps.

Honestly, the only track and field athlete you can compare to phelps is the decathlete. The american who won the decathlon could probably held up as the greatest athlete in the world due to the variety of events these guys have to compete in and the timeframe their given. They are the only ones' that can compete with what phelps did. Bolt is the fastest man on the planet in shoes, hands down. But he's all legs........does he exhibit the same overall full body athleticism as a decathlete or a swimmer?.........no

Bolt is the flashier athlete though and track/field is more interesting to watch than swimming........hence we'll remember him jogging backwards across the line in the 100 more than we'll remember phelps's runs.

and this is where racism starts.....

Very few nations actually swim at a high level. USA, Austrailia, only a few countries in europe and the asians only recently

he killed the field. as long as he doesnt test + .... i dont think he will

Phelps swam 100, 200, 400, 800 distances?

Phelps swam 100, 200, 400, 800 distances?

scratch the 800..my mistake. But he swam the other distances all in multiple strokes. For london he's planning on adding the 100 free and some backstroke....not sure what distance though. If he can pull that off there will be absolutely no question as to him being without a shadow of a doubt the greatest athlete in modern recorded times.

What about Lisa Leslie?? 4 olympics... for golds for USA basketball... No losses. No one impressed?? haha

Honestly both these guys are amazing at what they do, and right now no one is better than either of them at what they do.

I think a lot of people on here discount what phelps did because everyone has tried to run fast, how many of you have actually learned how to do all these different strokes and know how slow you swim them?

Either way both are great, Phelps is HUGE in the USA not cuz hes white because hes a USA athelte. If Bolt was from the USA he would get just as much hype.

the all time worlds fastest man...no one as fast in the history of man kind.

some russian won 4 gold medals in wrestling over 16 yrs and no one ever scored a single point on him. shut out every match. he may the best olympic ath. ever actually

That is extremely impressive. Its hard enough to win a gold medal in wrestling let alone shut every opponent out!

A) I think phelps would do a MUCH better showing at running the 100m than Bolt would have at swimming the 100m fly. Swimming is just a vastly more complex skill set combined with athleticism. Anyone can run 100m.....it's just a matter of how fast. But how many people can legitimately go one lap in an olympic size pool doing all these different strokes???

B) I honestly don't think Bolt's schedule was anywhere near what Phelps was. Bolt was seen running around the olympic village having a good time........Phelps spent his olympics eating, swimming, shitting and sleeping......every day.......same thing. that's what's impressive about what Phelps did. The caloric strains he put on his body far outweighed what Bolt put his body through.......that's why he's one of the greatest athletes ever. Only the decathletes can claim parity with him.

comparing medal counts is just stupid
sure phelps won more medals, but he mad more events of same/simular distance to do so
the extent of Bolt's victory was truely phenominal
he beat all other compeditors in the 100m sprint by as large a margin as phelps in a 400.
there is no telling how fast he really is.
i can see him running 9.5s

Bolt will get a better Hollywood movie deal offer than Phelps.

Actually, I'm not aware of him swimming any 400 metre races either. He strictly swam 100 and 200. Same as Bolt. Only difference being the 4 swimming strokes.

I think they were equally impressive. You can't directly compare them because there aren't 100 and 200 metre races for running backwards or sideways.

If you are talking about Alexander Karelin, he won 3 golds...not four. He won gold in 1988, 1992, and 1996. He was upset in the gold medal match in 2000 by Rulon Gardner.

But he did go SIX YEARS without giving up a single point in ANY competition, Olympics and otherwise, which is simply mind-boggling. He also had a 13 year undefeated streak going from 1987-2000 until he lost in the gold medal match to Rulon Gardner. Odds are that it was age that got him in the end, but he was an incredibly dominant athlete.

And to add another footnote about Alexander Karelin, I found this on a search:

He competed at the heaviest weight class of his day, 130 kg (286 lb). His conditioning, quickness, and incredible physical stature for his weight, perhaps combined with his dominance of the sport, led to him being known as "The Experiment" by much of the rest of the world. The term connoted the notion that his strength and skill were the result of some kind of scientific experiment. When asked why he thought he was called that, Karelin noted that others don't understand because "I train every day of my life as they have never trained a day in theirs."

That's a sig-worth quote right there.

Don't kid yourself, he was part of the old soviet doping program. He was genetically probably one of the most gifted humans of our time......but his dominance was a product of a doping protocol of the old eastern block sports machine. Obviously training was still most of it, we know this by the fact that you can't just pick up roids and be ROnnie COleman in a year or two.......but regardless, the man devoted his life to training and doping to be the best at what he does and maybe the best ever, I can't be mad....props to him.

you mean to tell me the guys he was wrestling against werent doping too?

probably not to their extent. What some of the east german athlestes have divulged over the past few years is quite startling. It's every bit like what was portrayed in Rocky 4 with the russian. The guy that finally beat Karelin though did not look like he juiced, not at all. Gardner had possibly the worst physique of an athlete I've ever seen, and that includes butterbean. If I saw that guy on the street I wouldn't guess him to have done 10 minutes of cardio in his life.......but he was a machine, I don't get it. How can you be a worldclass wrestler with legendary cardio and look that bad...????
