bodyfat tests

I remember a thread earlier about bullshit bodyfat tests. Yesterday, I got tested at 5.7%. I used to be 6.5%, but someone else was testing me. Funny thing is, I gained 10 lbs since then and kind of look fatter (to me). Do I take it as a miracle, or figure I'm about the same bodyfat as I was before, or should I still think that my bodyfat has gone up?

I would say its the person testing you different people tend to pinch different amounts of skin when they test. Also so many things can influence the test that it can vary from day to day.

I would say same BF hell 10IB up and same BF% aint nothing wrong with that, don't want to think the miracle since then you will be disapointed an be thinking you gained nothing but fat if the tests results go back up.

Actually I just ordered a bodyfat caliper and it came with an instruction booklet. The booklet said that the underwater bodyfat test was more accurate for people with higher bodyfat levels (>30%) but the calipers are more accurate for people under 10% bodyfat. This was interesting news to me. I also learned that there is a 4 point check and a 7 point check. The seven point check of course is most accurate.

Nope, hydro and water-displacement methods aren't accurate either. They're as accurate as you want them to be.

Next time I test myself, I'm going to use a method from Ukraine which gave our subject 1.5% bodyfat when we tested him. I'd love to be 1.5% bodyfat.... and it's much easier than dieting.

it's interested that you bring this up

I used the seven point methiod using a skinfold caliper at home, and it said my bf was 10.6%.

Then I used another online measurement, and it said 10.5%. So...I figured I was a around 11% since two diffierent tests gave me similar results.

I got this optical sensor , super-accurate test done at work today, and it said my bf % was 12.6%. To see if it's precise, I went back at another time of teh day and it gave me teh exact same results.

so...that's a 2% difference, which is a lot when you're talking about number under 14. The machine was the Futrex 5000 body analyzer

it's very simple to use, and I suggest you try to get your test done on it.
