Body Fat

Dumb Question?

If I'm at 20% body fat, would it be realistic to want to achieve a goal of 10% body fat over a 5 or 6 month period while losing very little, if any muscle, on a high protein/low carb type diet.

I'm 43 yrs old, I have a paper work type job, I work out 4 or 5 times a week, weights, very little cardio.
I'm 6'2" 220 lbs

If possible, would anyone care to share some of that diet information with me?

Thanks

220 @ 20% means 44 lbs of fat. thats not alot, that means you only have to lose roughly 25 lbs of fat in 6 months to get down to 10% (assuming you lose some muscle too, which you will). 25 lbs of fat in 6 months is very doable, thats barely 4 lbs a month.

yes, diet is the most important part of losing weight. try a ckd, as mentioned, to see if its right for you. but you have to do some sort of cardiovascular activity in order to lose fat, period. look into doing sprints or swimming to preserve the most muscle (something that is high intensity)

Personally I think I lost a lot of muscle on ckd. I did cut down super fast though.

Since you have some time you may want to try a body for life approach.

I am 6'3" and cut down to 10% on it. When I started it I was about 18% BF.

Westck - You need to eat like the 198 lb./200lb. person that you aspire to be at 6'2" and 10% BF. That equates to approx. 2940 calories per day. (assuming you are moderately active with desk job and 4-5 workouts/no real cardio)

Eat the majority of your carbs (complex/fibrous) by lunchtime and taper them the rest of the day. Lots of protein, water, and healthy EFA/Fats.

Consistency is key. The older we get, the harder it is to burn the fat off.

Whatever you do, DO NOT use the Body For Life program unless you want to lose just as much lean muscle tissue as you do fat mass. Then, you'll weigh less, but you'll be a smaller, just-as-fat person!

Body For Shit is what that is.
