PRESS TRAINING - Mesocycle 26 Week 2

Last Sunday's training.....work is crazy. I need to budget my time better. All weights are in lbs and the format is weight x reps x sets.

Overhead Press:
165 x 4
165 x 4
165 x 4
Decent. Needs work.

Weighted Pull-ups:
+35 x 5
+35 x 6
+35 x 5
Total = 16 reps
Felt very weak.

Dumbbell Rows:
140 x 3

Felt like crap.

FULL BODY TRAINING - Mesocycle 26 Week 2

Session took place on Wednesday. It was really good. I realized my mistake for the previous Front Squat session (on Tuesday) had been a lack of mobility drills. That is what my form blew and I kept having that damn buttwink.

Back Squats:
275 x 5
315 x 5
345 x 1
315 x 4
Easy easy easy. I am going to play with 315 and own it. After that, my goal is to hit 365x5 by the end of the year. But right now: I want to own 315.

Pull-ups:
13 + 11 + 11 + 12 = 47 reps

Rope Pull-ups:
6 + 6 + 6 = 18 reps
Total Pull-ups = 47 + 18 = 65
So awesome!!!!!

Video:

great workouts andalite. Get that schedule organized, I definitely need to get better organized too
I'm doing fine though....I just haven't been updating my log. Otherwise as far as training goes I am bringing my A game, bossman!!! :D

Great job on your workouts man!

Your back squats are looking pretty solid. You are not rounding your upper back nearly as much as the last time I commented and your descent is good with both the knees and hips breaking. Your bottom position right before you rise up looks very good.

Keep up the good lifting.

P.S. You're out squatting me atm. I need to step up my A game!!! lol

Thank you :)

I have not given back squats a lot of attention but because I have focused so much on my Front Squats they are catching up quickly :)

DEADLIFT TRAINING - Mesocycle 26 Week 2

Saturday's training was awesome. I almost had the whole gang in the house....Kanishk, Bijoy, Devraj, Lorelli...it was a blast!

Banded Deadlift Warm-ups:
Mobility Drills
135 x 3
135 x 3
225 x 4
255 x 5

Banded Deadlift Work Sets:
315 x 4
345 x 3
345 x 3
375 x 2
375 x 2
The looks that I got were pretty funny lol...This was damn difficult. Next week the approach to this is going to be different. I am going to be working up to a "Struggle Set". What this basically means is that I am going to work up to a weight which I cannot lockout - a weight with which I will struggle when it is at my knees or thereabouts. After this Struggle Set I will reduce the weight and try locking out the reps. The goal is to explode off the floor on each and every set from the get go. Anyway, I'm gonna work up to the Struggle Set, do that for maybe 1 more attempt, reduce the weight, do a bunch of heavy lockouts with the bands on. Then, if I feel good I will take the bands off and do some heavy deads...otherwise I'll pack up.

Deadlift Work Sets:
415 x 2
455 x 1
455 x 1
Decent. Just wanted to get some heavish sets...nothing fancy.

Pistol Squats:
+50 x 5
+50 x 4

Front Planks:
BW x 60 seconds x 3 sets

+35 x 6

I need to be more aggressive with these. Enough high rep work. Time to go back to the 50-75 range.

Cable Rows:
120 x 10
130 x 10
130 x 10

Unilateral Lat Pulldowns:
50 x 8

Nice job on the lifting man. The progress is moving right along.

You fought hard for those 185 presses man. Next stop 205.

At this stage progress isn't as quick as it used to be. Little by little lol...

185 is almost a BW OHP for me. I'm just 10 lbs off lol...

Thanks buddy :)

Wow fantastic work on those pullups and presses man that is some incredible stuff!!! It's like you just suddenly got that lol out of no where.

Are you kidding me? Bro, I've been knocking away at a particular weight range for a while now.

See, here's how we do things at GUS:

We work within a weight range, we master that weight range, we own our maxes and then we build on that.

What does this mean?

Lets take OHP.

My old 1RM on OHP was 185.

For 2 months all I have done is Unilateral OHP in the 65-80 lbs range for reps and sets using SDT Progression coupled with OHP @ 165-175 lbs.

You keep banging away at that weight range and get so good at it that you can hit your "max" even on a bad day (thereby "owning" your max) that it becomes easy for you to move up to the next weight range.

This is how I have progressed on Deadlifts as well. If you recall, I've spent the last 5 months working in the 400-450 range.. Now I can hit 495 on any day of the week PLUS I am well within the 450-500 range for work sets.

:)

BTW, here in army ROTC we call the Russian Twists, "American Twists." Much better haha:D

You WOULD do that lol......!!!

Imo you can officially brag a little when you can do a legit bodyweight standing press.

I have seen quite a few guys bench over 315 even as small an amount as that is in your typical gym, but I have only seen a couple people do a full rom press either standing or seated with bodyweight in my 17 years of off an on lifting.

You know what Ronnie Coleman would say at a time like this?

YA BUDDAAAY! Light Weeeeight!

LOL thats funny...you didn't know I was Indian? Have you seen how dark I am? ahahahaa

I'm not Sikh....but I know what you're talking about. All these Indians who are not in India are so religious and orthodox compared to the Indians IN India lol.....

Was the parade cool?

sweet workouts man! And why was that pressing just meh.....185x2 looked pretty easy to me

The 185x1 after that was too difficult.

:(

I did know lol i was jus makin sure, it was pretty cool actually they play rap songs but then do their indian voices over it, pretty neat.

We have about 1/2 traditoinal. 1/2 modern. I have a friend who is very modern, but has to sneak around with his girl because her parents are more traditional. They have been together for years and the parents still dont know! His parents passed away unfortunately.

Aaaah I know what you're talking about. Pinjabi bhangda rap...I like that stuff!! :)

Dude wtf man....I feel like an asshole coz I'm still laughing!!!!

Nah my parents aren't like that lol.....They had a "love marriage" lol...they dated for like 10 years before they tied the knot. So their view on relationships is cool. Actually, my grandma is 85 and she's one of the Freedom Fighters for India and she's the coolest person ever lawl...like.....if I had a gf and we did not have sex my grandma would think there's something wrong in the relationship. Infact, almost all the girls I've dated have met my parents and my grandma and stuff.....we're not close minded about that stuff. But my parents do have standards lol...if I date an idiot then I don't think anybody's gonna be a huge fan of her lol......Dude I still can't believe I'm laughing at the way you worded his parents' death...WTF!!!!!

Deadlift Work Sets:
345 x 2
415 x 2
475 x 1
Bar felt weightless.

Video:

wow how much resistance did those #2 bands add?
They're supposed to be 50 lbs single looped.

I not only double loop them but they're also tight and the tension is in with the bar on the ground itself.

Approximately, the load at the top is anywhere from 110-140ish lbs at the top per band. So you factor in 2 bands and you almost have 300 lbs more at the top.

Actually, I use the 140 and 120 lbs dumbbells to hold the bands down because if I use 100 and 75 like I tried to, both go totally off the floor. So I am not quite sure what exactly the band tension is, but it is safe to say that it is a lot lol...

After the band work when I pulled 345 I swear it felt so easy...then 415 was like floating lol....I love that "floating" effect. BUUUTTT....475 was difficult lol...and it was the first time I've used a left over right under grip combo on 475. I always stop that alternate grip @ 465 but something told me to stop being a pussy yesterday.

If you've seen Fired Up...I believe the phrase is: You gotta risk it for the biscuit!

:p

Jesus wtf kind of job do you do? 60 hour work weeks?

Unless you're a doctor or getting paid BIG money your job sounds like bullshit to me bro. Just saying.

Tblock1, I was just commenting on how it seems he's being overworked. I would never put those kind of hours into a job unless I was either A. getting BIG money or B. utterly loved my job.

Not to go internet tough guy, but I probably would have slapped the taste out of your mouth if you had said that to me in person.

hahahahahahhaa I agree. But you got to do what you got to you know what I mean? It's a tough economy and you can't discriminate jobs like that. My dad is taking an underpaid job right now for his experience because that's what he's got to. If you don't have a job you can't discriminate. And that was a totally internet tough guy thing to say....your size would scare the shit out of me but you don't have the strength to back it up yet. Once you have that 350 bench though then you will be all around scary:D

I have ALOT of skills and I can't get a job.

I am being passed up for MENIAL labor jobs because either A. too much competition with people that have degrees(whatever the fuck that's supposed to prove for a simple job) or B. My being over-qualified.

I have years of experience working in retail from my younger days and 8+ years heavy equipment operating experience and can't get a job. I've worked for temp agencies doing the most menial physical labor making minimum wage having to get up at 5am to even have a chance at getting work for the day.

I quit my last job for a multitude of reasons with it being as close to slave labor as I have ever experienced and I've done some hard/shitty jobs in my day so far.

So when you post a comment like that it pissed me off regardless of what you may or may not have meant.

"And that was a totally internet tough guy thing to say....your size would scare the shit out of me but you don't have the strength to back it up yet. Once you have that 350 bench though then you will be all around scary".:D

After a certain point strength is meaningless in regards to fighting. Currently I am more than strong enough to physically man-handle most solid sized guys and that's not even counting previous fighting experience that I have, 6 months practicing brazilian jiu jitsu or my natural wrestling ability.

Group hug bitch.

P.S. I got the strength joke.:theshadow

Yeah but I think the point where strength is meaningless in fighting fairly high, then at that point it becomes speed and ability. I wrestled in high school and found strength to be extremely useful, and I wasnt even strong then haha. Technique can overcome strength to a degree, but if someone is way stronger than you you are gonna get tossed around. But yeah good luck getting a job I really wish you the best:supercool

Have you been looking around a lot (I'm sure you have haha) ?

I've lost track of how many applications I have out out. ALOT.

I'm on the job boards and craigslist every day looking for jobs. I send out e-mails all the time. Haven't heard anything back.

Trust me when I say the economy is still dog shit.

On the subject of strength you are using wrestling as your basis for strength. Being very strong and having speed and power or extremely important in fighting, but without technique and experience you will lose.

When I said strength after a point becomes meaningless I meant it in regards to being overly strong or having retarded amounts of extra strength.

I can tell you right now I am likely strong enough to wrestle heavyweight mma guys. Now I'm not saying that I could manhandle guys like that by any means, but I know my strength is high enough and my bodyweight is high enough that I could do it. Would I get embarrased? Of course, because of their superior skills, but strength would not be an issue.

See what I mean? I'm an average height guy so I'm not classically big in the sense of joe farm boy that's 6'4" and 250lbs type big. More like really thick for my height.

All things being equal the stronger/faster fighter will be the winner of the 2.

That said weight room strength and mat strength are 2 different things. I have wrestled absolutely hoss's on the mat that couldn't bench more than 250 or squat 315. I'm talking farm boy type strength. Being stronger from weights is almost always useful in fighting, but being able to apply that strength is huge as well. There are alot of guys that are very strong in the gym yet when you wrestle them they are not as strong as you expected. This isn't always true, but it comes down to how physically gifted you are imo. Gifted athletes/fighters when you fight/wrestle them seem to apply their strength to a degree that your typical schmoe cannot. This could be due to greater speed, balance or coordination. I'm not sure.

Anyhow, enough ranbling. Don't gimme hard times about not having a job buster. I have less than 2 dollars in my bank account so I will get butthurt over it.

P.S. Sorry to threadjack Andalite. TJ over.

On the topic of fighting. I agree with both of you.

I hate. I mean HATE. When kids say "Yeah well strength means nothing, fighting is all about technique". Usually these kids are scrawny phags who wear TAPOUT shirts and hats.

Strength is just as crucial as technique, you give me a 5'11 170 lbs. boxer and I will break his friggen leg. I am positive he has better technique than me, but I could easily over power him with the sheer mass I have on him. Its a fight, not martial arts, theres a point where if your that much bigger than someone they don't stand a chance because you can simply grab them and take them down. Once their down its over.

Obviously if you put me against a person of the same build but he was a world class BJJ star then he could probably get me to submit from the bottom. So take what I said with a tiny grain of salt.

The reason I used my 5'11 170lbs. boxer example is because that was the last kid I fought, when I broke my hand. I was 5'8 195 then, with that size I was much stronger than him. Hes competed in over 20 matches and was a well qualified boxer. But in the fight it was a smokeshow, literally I ran at him, shot for his legs and took him down. I probably ate two punches on the approach. Neither of his punches had anything behind them because he was off balance. I just manhandled him on the ground until I mounted him.

Now look whos playing internet tough guy...

Back to my point, technique and strength both play fairly equal roles in a fight and in order to be a formidable opponent you really need both. Hell, look at Lesnar's last fight against Valesquez(sp?) Brock bull charged him from the bell and took him down twice but Valesquez was able to scramble and ge tup after both take downs. Once Brock realized that his simplistic approach to fightring wouldn't work he was bucked and he took a beating and lost. The strongest man in MMA was felled in the first minutes of round 1.

LOL..

ghetto, just to put things into perspective:

I work at one of the top 5 (hint) accounting firms in the world. I'm not in accounting. I'm in Corporate Finance i.e. Valuations which means we oversee/value/manage M&A or business restructuring and IPO deals.

I have a BSc. in Finance.

The job profile which I have is for post-MBA level graduates.

I have a BSc. in Finance. (yes, repeat)

There are guys who have MBAs who want my job.

I'm only doing this job because:
(a) Profile is for MBA level graduates
(b) I need this to get into a top notch MBA program in the US (read: Harvard, Wharton, Kelloggs, etc)

If I get choosy in a country with over 1 billion people of which 65% fall into the age group of 18-35, guess what? I'll be out on my ass.

I have to put in the time so that I can get my MBA.

On another note: you should consider moving out to India....I've met like 3 white dudes from Philadelphia who've been working here for 2-3 years now. They're in the media/Bollywood industry.

Back to topic: I hate working so many hours but the boss I am working with is fucking amazing. I am enjoying my work because of the way he manages the project. Very very good leadership - something I am going to learn a lot from.

however, you are right. Were I older, and if I had more education, I would not stick with this type of job because they barely pay me anything. However, right now I am not worried in the least bit about cash so I don't have to prioritize my life by the money I make at the moment. BUT, like I said...doing my job at any time in your life post 24-25 is not something anybody should look forward too. Luckily, I'm only 22 :)

That's cool amigo. I totally get why you're busting your ass bro. I was just curious as to the reasons why.

You know what? I probably would consider moving to India if I thought I could make a living there. Now I don't have any clue how the girls there respond to white guys from the usa, but I find alot of Indian women to be very beautiful. I definitely don't discriminate.:D

I have to admit I have a very uneducated and simplistic view of other countries. I have no idea what India is actually like. I do know a few things though.

1. Indian girls? Check.
2. Easy access to lot's of Testosterone/no worries? Check.

That's about all I know. I have no media experience whatsoever. This may sound like an incredibly stupid question, but do they have regular old 2% milk from regular cows? Told ya it was a stupid question?

I'll have to do some research. I entertained the thought of doing some heavy equipment operating overseas, but it was alot harder finding anything legit for that than I had initially thought it would be.

Yeah I know...nobody comments here anyway but I figure it's coz I'm also not around as much so it is mostly my fault.

I'm glad you're doing well, dude. To get strong you just got to plug away at it :)

Work is killing me lol.....Training is happening though....it's getting harder to progress in a linear fashion lol....Eric's got me doing some wild shit though....I've been cleaning up my diet too. I dunno if I've mentioned this but when I came back to Bombay in May after graduating I weighed 215 lbs. Right now I'm at 185-187. But my diet has turned to absolute shit. I wrote a post on it out here:

Also I forgot to tell you probably the most important fitness thing for me recently: I got a 306 out of 300 on my first record apft (army physical fitness test)! Thats the main reason the lifting has been down is all the running but it sure paid off! Got exactly 13:00 on the run (which is maxing) but not without some serious puking haha!
