Better to have DB or KB?

Dumbbells for sure and a bench.
You can do a lot more exercises with them... from 1kg to 20kg is a good way to start.
However, over time, to keep moving forward, you will need to buy some extra equipment like bars, plates and a rack.

I would say dumbbells. You can do most kettlebell movements with dumbbells. However, it's very hard to do things like bench press with kettlebells.

Another great option for home gyms is resistant bands
