Best way to move max reps with bench???

Long story short -

My Fire Department has entered me into a charity bench comp. My sponsor will pay 1 cent for every lbs. of weight I do. (example below) What would be the best way to do this. I did 135 lbs. today 64 times but I was dead from heavy benching just minutes before. Should I drop the weight down around 100 lbs. and see if I end up with a higher number? Thoughts???

Example -
135 x 64 = 8640

8640 x .01 = $86.40

I think if you drop too low, youre arms are going to get tired from going through the motion so many times regardless, so stick to a number that's going to give you some $$ per rep, i think you'll do best between 115-135...

I seems to really run into a wall at 135 lbs. around 50-60 reps. After that, it's a fight for sure! Maybe I should try 115 or so???

Random thought:

Maybe start out really wide...bring it in when you need to... and then use tricep to bang out some really close reps when your pecs are toast?

Thanks everyone!

That's a good idea! I have not tried to change my grip when I hit that wall. I wonder if I could push out some more really wipe and then close or the other way around???

Personally with myself and most people I know, with those 225 rep tests, the very first thing to go is triceps. With light weights for reps on bench it is always the triceps that are fried and they're the reason you have to stop when you do.....some guys work around this by doing gay half-reps, lol, but most of the time those reps don't count and they're screwed anyway.

Whatever you decide to use, definitely make sure to practice it for a couple weeks so endurance isn't an issue, and do lots of functional triceps accessory stuff leading up.

OK. I'm trying different weight each week and seeing how the numbers look. Gay half-reps will not count anyway. lol..I only get $ for full reps.

How's the bicep!!!!!!!!!!!

Tell the FD that you may need a break from benching, then go take a crap in the urinal.

Biceps are fine just a little sore when I lift heavy. I can do this with no pain but if I go over 315 lbs. It starts to hurt. It's really not that bad at all but I'm trying to address it before it goes bad.
