Best place to live in Texas?

Planning to move to the big state in a couple of years...what's the best town/city to live? I mean no gangs, safe, no chicanos, farms and hot girls?
;)

Houston rocks, Austin is great if you like to party every night though. In all honesty, if you want to avoid gangs, you should pick a small town, all the large cities here have gangs. The key is to pick parts of town where there are no gangs. I'm in northwest Houston, near 290 and 1960, right now, and there are no gangs here.

The last thing anyone has to worry about is phucking gangs, "hey, let's live by some gangs", who the phuck thinks like that, geigh, just come to Houston, if you don't want the best that Texas has to offer then go somewhere else.

BBF - you probably train at Jones and 1960 or 529 and Hwy 6, if 24 Hour is your gym, if not your probably hitting Costas or Powerhouse.

My friend lives in Austin and hates Houston. I have relatives in Dallas and considered moving there.

North Dallas or Austin, that's it

but if you want to live in Houston I have some high rise condos I can get you a GREAT deal on, seriously, we need to get rid of them, brand new building in the Galleria area :)

I can't believe everybody is suggesting Houston. I used to live there and I wouldn't again unless I was getting paid $500,000 or more a year. The traffic is horrible and it take hour to go anywhere.

Austin is AWESOME and prettier than Houston but its traffic is getting bad too. I would suggest San Marcus because you are close to Austin, New Bransfels and San Antonio. Also Southwest college is there so there is plenty of hot women.

As far as activities, the best lakes in Texas are within a hour driving distance, Lake Travis is the best lake in the country and then you Lake Austin and Canyon lake too. You can go tubing in New Bransfels and the hill country is awesome to tear up either on a motorcycle or sports car.

Texas blows...I've been seriously thinking about picking up and getting the fuck outta here.

I've been all over this state and it's all pretty much the same.

P.S. if you don't like chicanos, you really don't want to move here.

How can you say the Hill Country Sucks? Also have you ever been on Lake Travis during the summer? I mean how you say all of Texas is the same? Are you a yankee capet bagger by chance?

There is a lot of money to be made here.

There are a gang of women in the 10 range here.

You have the entire gulf coast to surf if you choose.

Social activites are more than plentiful.

I take supreme advantage of all of the above all the time, it's solid, if you can't make it here you are a doomed SOB.

Have you ever lived anywhere else besides Texas??

it's incredibly boring here, traffic sucks, the weather completly sucks.

there's just not much to do here besides fishing and hunting.

Yes, I have been to many places and Texas is awesome. Just curious where do you live?

And have you ever floated the Guadalupe river with a bunch of friends and tube full of beer? Have you ever partied at the cove on Lake Travis on a holiday weekend? Have you been on 6th street? Have you ever gone to Mexico to party and get gear cheap?

Depends

I still don't get why peeps from TX say that, when I went back to Cali last year I saw more "10's" in one day then I've seen here in 5 years.

You have the entire gulf coast to surf if you choose.

Fuck that cesspool of an ocean, thats the nastiest water I've ever seen, it's like a big stanagnt(sp?) lake.

Social activites are more than plentiful.

Way less than other places, bars maybe, but in Cali there's was always some event going on.

I live in north Tx and I've done all of that.

I've been all over this state and it doesn't even remotely compare to other places.

How do you know where The Woodlands is?

Curling - I live in San Marcos. It's a shit hole of a town. If it weren't for the university this town would be nothing but vatos.

Austin is the shit. beautiful environment in every way you can think.

How about Denton? It's a college town, so there'll be plenty of cute womens and other "cultural" activities, it's close enough to Dallas if you need to go shopping, and it's small enough that the traffic and other urban problems won't be much of an issue.

LOL I live in Denton.

You know how bad traffic is here in town with all the construction and don't even get me started on I35.

Housing is way to expensive for what you get in Denton.

Might be Denton County, It's about 15 min away if even that.

Little Elm smells like raw sewege, that's why it's so cheap there.

you've obviously never seen housing prices in the NE or the West coast. Texas housing is as affordable as your gonna get. Curling if you have cash and want to be near Dallas check out Highland Park, College Park area around SMU. Hot girls from SMU (snobby bitches though) and great looking women everywhere. Its very pricey for Texas but the neighborhoods cant be beat. South Lake is 20 minutes from Dallas and another really nice town. 30 minutes from Ft Worth as well.

Austin is a great city! beautiful... probably the most beautiful in texas. awesome nightlife, got the hill country, lakes, its awesome BUT, there are an ASSLOAD of wetbacks here... its rediculous and, unfortunately, will only get worse.

I like big cities. What is Dallas like? job market, real estate, traffic, etc.

Dallas is huge. I think the actual city of Dallas is not where you want to live. Lots of crime and poverty. But the metroplex is huge, lots of nice suburbs, and they say the job market is better comparatively. Real estate is cheap compared to California. I don't like big cities, so I live out in the boonies, but where I live there are huge mansions and ranches all around me. I don't like the weather, but I think it rates better than most places in US.

wow thanks guys for all the feedback. Well, seems like Houston is not the place nor downtown Dallas. Sucks bigtime hearing that everyday more and more illegal immigrants are over there....but that will be always a big problem. That's why Florida is fucked up. Too many immigrants, high demand in real state (prices go up), high demand for jobs (salaries go down), high density traffic, expressways are already 5 lanes wide and traffic doesn't move. Down in Miami for example a simple new townhouse 3/2 is around $230,000 while minimum wage is $5.15 and an average salary in Miami is around $25,000-$29,000. I'd say...that's a good average. And not to mention that social life everyday is getting worse in FL. Some years ago south beach was the shit! for everybody. Now is a gettho place. Gangs, crime, latin gettho, latin music, nothing else. Ft Lauderdale rocks for spring break but the "others" are getting there soon....

Thanks alot for the info. Those little cities in Texas like San Marcus, Denton area and some parts of Austin seems to be the place to live. For me, I'd go to Montana. But the cold kills me. I stay in the South.

:)

Real estate is a lot more on the west cost BUT the pay scale is also ALOT higher than in Texas.

I meant that here in Denton since it's a "college town" housing is overpriced.

But all the other Texas bros will tell you also...the traffic is horrible here.

I live less than 10 min from my job and it takes me atleast 30 min to get there and that's IN TOWN.

I feel for the poor bastards that have to comute to Dallas every day.

And I know I'll get called rascist, but all the illegal immigrant Mexicans are coming over here and destroying the once nice neighborhoods.

Is it really a nice neighborhood if illegal immigrants can afford to live there? They're all over L.A. but I only see them at bus stops and car washes.

Yes when the fuckin goverment buys a house and makes it a "section 8" housing.

Or when 20 of them move into one house.

I know what you're gettting at and you're wrong.

Beleive me.. I've seen one to many nice neighborhoods become Barrios.

I live on a street where the houses are on average $110,000 and up (which in Texas = a nice house).

It's already happening...The goverment bought 2 houses down the street from me and made them into "section 8" houses.

Now that end of the street looks like absoulte shit and good people are selling their homes and leaving.

Yeah in CA real state is a lot more expensive but I have a friend in San Francisco and he told me a good average salary is around $60,000.

Bro. Let's put something clear. Being against illegal immigration is not being racist. WTF? So if tomorrow Mexicans want to steal from supermarkets and you are against them you are racist?? Hell no!! Crossing the border illegaly into the U.S. is a CRIME that should be stopped and prosecuted. Going into any country illegaly is a crime. And Mexicans YES they are destroying the cities. They are nasty, they bring poverty, illness, crime, bad habits, poor culture and their music sucks bigtime! There's nothing wrong if you want and try to preserve your traditions and your environment in your own country. We should speak more about this in the whole country and LOUD so everybody can listen. And I'm telling you this cause I see here in FL how latinos are everyday destroying EVERYTHING. Sometimes I spend hours talking about this with my friends and at the end, the conclusion is

"There is good and bad people everywere. But that's a cheap excuse for immigrants. Because the realllity is the proportions. While in some places there are more good people than bad people, in other places there are more bad people than good people. And believe me. Most of SouthAmerican people is bad" That's a fact. Just look into the cities where they live. NOTHING works as it's supposed to be. From a simple gas pump that doesn't read your debit card, to a big company where you can't go in if you are not a relative of somebody or a friend of somebody. Still have doubts? Easy. Look at their countries. They suck. After Africa and some parts of middle east and Asia South America is the most poor continent. Africa, Middle east and Asia, have a lot of poverty caused by two big factors. Lack of natural resources and overpopulation. South America by itself has I'd say 10 times natural resources than North America and his population is proportional to the living area. So the only reason for that mediocrity and poverty is IT'S PEOPLE. A mediocre system made by governments chosen by people. Generations after generations. And they are coming here to do the same.

I'm sorry for the long post but I get excited speaking about what I call "undiscriminated immigration" because that could be the beggining of the decadence of The United States of America. And we should act NOW.

I had a friend in Atlanta that owned houses rented under Section 8 and they were always in neighborhoods you wouldn't want to live in.

Identifying a problem that hits home immediately is evident here in LA if youv'e ever tried to obtain affordable rental accomodations.

If you can only afford $400-$900/month rent and you CAN'T speak spanish; Forget about it. You'll either hav eto bunk with another person in a $1200/apt or chalk up the money for a more expensive palce. When i first moved to cali, I got a $700/month 1-bedroom here in lb. I was the only "non-spanish" speaking guy in the whole complex. People were actually amazed HOW i got the apartment. Most landlords do't like to mix spanish and non-spanish people in proprties. Presents problems plus the spanish are always bitching for the gringo's to move out so they can move their familes in.

To think only 4 years ago I had a $550 2 bedroom in CT! lol. Too bad salaries don't match whatever city you live in. I'd be living like a king in CT right now.

Illegals come and do the $2/hr jobs yes. But they also corner the market on low income rentals, bumping the price for everyone else. No one hears about that cause/effect mentioned in the news cuz it's not politically correct.

As for mexicans -- i have many LEGAL mexican friends who can't STAND the illegals. It's giving them a bad name and detest them with a passion. Can't say i blame them.

That's the problem. There's a lot of politics behind this issue. Unfortunatelly politicians are "selling" this country for votes and popularity. Nobody will throw the first stone because the first one loose. It's so sad to hear for example a monster city like LA with a lot of history, mysticism, early development, now is destroyed by immigrants. And I blame on all immigranst because unfortunatelly most of them are guilty. Just a minority of them are good for this country but it's impossible to look who's right and who's not. We should start by those latino channels. They are very dangerous giving support to illegals and imposing their nasty culture through the media.

Going back to big Texas, how much is an average good salary over there?

Dial Tone if you were worried about stuff like that you move to the neighborhoods I suggested. Section 8 housing will NEVER EVER be in Highland Park, University Park, College Park, Southlake and neighborhoods that are similar. Denton isnt exactly a nice town IMO. I see the illegals but they dont live or come close to the nice neighborhoods around here. As for Dallas its a big city to most but if you've lived near NYC for any amount of time you realize Dallas is not very big. Its a nice place, people are extremely friendly, great looking women, and affordable housing. The salary in jobs isnt bad either unless your looking for Investment Banking or Trading type jobs. My highest salary offer came from a company down here after I graduated college.

As several pointed out the cost of living is cheap in Texas. Annabelletx and I just got an apartment that is 850 sq ft, new appliances, washer, dryer, dishwasher, nice carpet, a large pool, a movie theater (you play your own dvd's there) a billiard room, a reasonable apt gym, is gated, and in a perfect location for $605 a month.
