best female contraception for minimal weight gain / water

I used to be on the pill but I just see so much in the way of breast cancer linked to it for long term use. Think short term you're ok but not for the long haul. Even though the new ones over the years are lower in estrogen ...still not worth the risk for long term use. Just my two cents.

It's a hard question to answer because BC is such an individual thing. What works for one, will not really work for the other. I have 10 years on your partner and have had a few trials before I found what worked for me. The rule of thumb is to give it at least 2 months and usually 3-4 to see if it changes and things settle down. It takes the body that long to adjust and catch up with the changes in hormones.

Drinking more water helps with getting rid of water or an OTC diuretic too. There's lots of herbal ones you can buy.

Yasmin is the one I settled on. It has horrible press but has been good for me.

I would agree. A woman's body is a darn tricky thing!

I was on Depo in my 20's and had horrible acne, which those bozo Dr's didn't realize it was that stupid shot and after trying a ton of acne treatments, put me on Accutane (poison & a whole diff topic).

I was on Nuvaring forever and LOVED it, but because I have migraines am now not allowed to take it. They put me on some low dose hormone bc pill and I went from being a girl with a 2-day period every 28 days to literally bleeding non-stop for 60 days before that crap worked it way through my system.

I just got the Mirena IUD, so far so good. I haven't gained any weight (though I haven't lost any either) -- BUT I was not on any BC for 8 years between Nuvaring and my now 2-month new IUD.

If she is really having trouble, I don't know the 'trial and error' hormone fluctuations are worth it. Spermicide and there a couple other non-hormone bc options available.

Good luck to the both of you!
