For every pull you need depression and retraction of the scapula.
At the beginning you can do the movement in three phases, first you do the depression, then you do the retraction, and finally you pull. Over time the movement will be clean and continuous, you will not need to think to perform every rep.
Remember for muscle hypertrophy the quality of the contraction, range of motion, time under tension are variables much more important than loads. Focus on the movement first instead of how many plates you load the bar.
