Tool's music always sounds amazing life but sometimes Maynard can be a complete prick on stage and then you get a bad vibe from that. I went to one tool show and he only came out on stage for 1 song, the rest he sang standing behind Danny Carey. I would have kicked that short bastard's ass after that show if I would have got the chance and I have tattoos of their songs on my body I'm such a fan.

Stood by Chad Gracey(drums) for and entire Live show drinking Becks with my friend. That was cool to be high on stage for a show when the band had the number one single in the world at the time.

Saw Rage at the Rock im Park concert in 96, that show was sweet. Also saw them at the Pinkpop in 94. (Pinkpop this year will be good)

A NIN show in Kansas city in 2000 was really good if you can believe that, probably one of my favorites.

Worst show- GNR opening for Metalica at Mile High, dick Axle wouldn't sing.

I've seen a shitload of great shows, I have a theory on people who have seen a lot of concerts. They don't get laid very often.

Re: Best concert you have ever seen.............................................. ................................

Motley Crue at the FleetCenter in Boston a couple years ago. Absolute awesome show that Im sure many other bands dont even come close to. Were talking a "show" not just a band playing. Strippers swinging from ropes, midgets running around, bikes, hot girls, titty cam......umm....3 10min videos for intermissions......they played for over 3 hrs......oh, and of course pyro technics and huge ass flames during "shout at the devil".

Hell every Allman Brothers show I've ever seen was good.

Every Gov't Mule show in my city.
And I hate to say it, but three nights of Megadeth here in my town..... a place I will not name as it will give away my location.

Sheot I forgot, all the shows mentioned are equal in my fav concerts for what their worth. But Johnny Winter in I believe it was '91 at a place in Cincinnati called Bogarts. OMG that is the top of my list.

Sorry........ long list and you asked for one. It's hard just to pick one.

Oh and me and my friends '89 thru '93...... very very much musical communication happening.

Re: Best concert you have ever seen.............................................. ................................

Hmmm. Thats a toss up between the anger management tour which featured Limp Bizkit, Eminem, and Papa Roach, and Godsmack. Eminem sucked ass, but the rest was awesome. Three bands for the price of two. Not bad. But since Eminem blew goats so I guess I broke even.

And Godsmack. They were by far the best sounding concert I've been to. Almost sounded like a CD. Sully and Shannon did a drum duo that was totally kick ass.

maynard doesn't do that to be a dick. he thinks their music should be about their music, not the personalities singing/playing it.

would you prfer him to run and jump around on stage like fred durst?

plus, the man is a total introvert.

Dude I have Tool tattoos on my arms, I know a lot about the band. I understand why he says he does it, I just don't agree with it. If you are going to stand on a stage and play for someone while taking their money then you are a performer. That is what a performer does. I am ridiculing the way he is performing. That is total BULLSHIT about how his music means something to him and he feels more comfortable presenting it from the 'shadows'. Why not just sing from backstage, or another location and forget the concert at all. If you are going to take my 65 buck to perform then stand on stage like a fucking monkey and do some tricks.

This thread is about best concerts not best music. I love the shit out of Tool(though the entire shift in philosophy on the last album lyrically is not in line with why I began liking them, though the sound is still there). On a good show there are few better but the new attitude is sketchy at best.

No but there is a thing called stage presence. He wasn't beyond putting on a dress and coming out to sing Stinkfist was he? He understands what he is doing, it is just one more way he has to communicate with us and I don't agree it makes for the best concert.

BTW if you can't tell I'm overly passionate about this you should have been there when I walked out of that show. The sound was amazing, the production was OK and Maynard was a complete asshole. When you are a dedicated folllowing fan and you get that then you usually aren't happy.

Re: Best concert you have ever seen.............................................. ................................

Summer Sanitarium tour with Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit and Metallica after Hetfield got out of rehab. I was 10 feet from the stage in the pit. Linkin Park blew the roof off the place and made Fred Durst look like a fag.

Rage in 1997 was amazing since the whole building rushed the floor before the show started and had a riot during the concert.

Re: Best concert you have ever seen.............................................. ................................

There is a partially built castle in colorado in the mountains kind of out toward new mexico.. I went several awesome fucking raves there in the late 90's...

Me and some buddies threw a desert rave in the desert outside sandiego in 99-00 new year that was awesome thought I took so many disco biscuits I passed out shortly after midnight

pretty much all my old school hip hop stars.

unbelievable energy the whole time. managed to last 8-9 hours straight at that place, and it was hot as fuck that day.

Kiss in '78 or so. I was 10 y/o...lol.

Slayer in '84 opening up for Venom in a small club here. I wasn't 18 yet, but got in anyway. Kerry King was thin and had HAIR! I shit you not. They wore eyeliner too.

Priest on the Defenders tour. Halford may have been coked up, but the show was amazing.

Any of the 5 Maiden shows I've seen.

GnR opening up for for Maiden. I hated Slash and his pentatonic rehashes at the time, so I spent the night giving him the finger whilst standing 10 feet away from him. The Maiden show kicked ass, of course.

Metallica on the Master tour. Their first headlining tour after opening for Ozzy. It was prolly the first month they had been playing with Newstead. I wish I could've seen Cliff though. Club held about 2000 people and was converted from an old theater. Excellent sound and show.

Accept, opening up for Golden Earring, of all bands.

Oh yeah, I forgot this one....

.... 3rd row at the Al DiMeola gig during the '94 Jazz Fest here. Still can't quite play like Al, but my hair is better.

I actually sat next to these guys that brought a really cool pipe, it was silver and had a big bowl that would hold about a 1/4 oz, you could pass it or do a shotgun down over 2-3 chairs. Thier stash was good and so was mine, we had a dayum good time. A policeman stood right over my shoulder the whole concert. I think he enjoyed it as much as I did. The concert I mean.

Funny thing, I've never smoked a cig in my life.

I saw George Jones in a tiny club, it was a "make-up" show for one he missed. Since they just filled a date during the week, there was only about 30-40 people there. It was so quiet that you could sit at your table and talk to him. He just sat and took requests and talked about each song. THAT was cool. If your a country music fan that is....

Re: Best concert you have ever seen.............................................. ................................

Had to be my first concert ever which was NiN (a close 2nd was Manson in 1996 or 1997 whenever Antichrist Superstar came out). It was an impromptu concert that only allowed 600 to get in to. It was back in 1995 when two of us just turned 16 in October and the other was 15. There was every demographic you could think of from the typical goth/metalheads who worship Trent, to vampire looking chicks and even people wearing tuxedo's and evening dresses. It was a show for everyone.

As NiN opened with head like a hole, the crowd erupted which then made the entrance of two naked chics behind Trent even better. They were part of the act obviously but they did nothing but dance and make out with each other the entire show which was awesome especially for us since we were so young.

I lost my flanel shirt, my friend lost a shoe, the security crew that took our pipe that we brought scraped the bowl clean before giving it back to us after the show.

It was just fucking awesome

LMAO!! that guy!? THAT GUY!!! that guy is one of the most famous people in the world, how about Robert Plant. "The guy" drumming, you may care to know that his name is John Bohnam, one of, certainly the most innovative, the best drummers ever.

The bands tha you know today just didn't pop out of the damn woodwork with their particular styles, they had bands before them. Before Zepplin, the Stones, The Who and the Beatles, they had influences. Like Robert Johnson, Lead Belly, Howling Wolf, Blind Willy Johnson, all of which had much influence over all of the music now known as rock and all it's derivitives.

Mouse and I have had threads dealing with this before, if you like music, you really should have some curiosity as how it evolved into the different types of music that we have today. Looks like we should do it more often.

Anyway, yeah, the guy in the first vid "smuggleing grapes", that's from about 73' I'd guess, it's Robert Plant.

*btw, Maynard from Tool, he'd have known....

Re: Best concert you have ever seen..............................................

Thanks Tex! That Zep video seriosly kicks ass - I really am trying to add that to our setlist. LOL @ some comparing some of the contemporary musicians to players like Page (from like the Yardbirds) and the roots of rock-n-roll...

Every young drummer would give their right nut to be Bonnham, or sing like Plant, or play like Jones or Page.
