Hey, just thought I'd inform y'all as to why I haven't been around alot lately.

For one: been training. Have been taking advantage of the "No Strongman Training" and have been really hard at work in the gym.

Other: have been getting back into "artist mode". Drawing alot. Getting back into sculpture (clay). I have found that artwork actually assists greatly in my recovery from training (both mental and physical). As well as focus.

Question: Do you all find the same thing with other hobbies? And what hobbies? Are they all training-related?

Here's a sample of what I spent my most recent Saturday morning/early afternoon doing: chalk art. A event called, "Chalk it up for literacy". 20-local artists had from 9AM to 2PM to create a piece on a 40x60 black mat board with chalk. First time I ever worked with chalk and on a dark board.

I was STOKED for training after this, believe it or not. :D

WOW!

I used to have hobbies: Classical piano, quilting, painting, interior design (good ol' fashion T-square and graph paper....very relaxing to me). Been a while since I did anything non-training related, other than homeschooling my son. I do notice that if he has had a good day with schooling, I feel like I've completed something, and I'm ready to train.

That board looks AWESOME!

Thank you, fellow dudettes.

Southern: yeah, I sell. As a matter of fact, I may have picked up a few commissions with this piece. And they were all the fathers of daughters; and these fathers told me personally that they loved this piece since it was so insprirational for their daughters. That was just...I don't know, I get all choked up when I think about that.

The primary gal in this pic is reading "Le Morte d'Arthur" (the book the movie "Excalibur" was based on), and invisioning herself as a knight (or King/Queen Arthur). The other gal is reading another of my favorite books, "The Secret Garden". And the stacks of books to the right are all "titled" according to how they would make the reader think: "Empowerment", "Inspire", "Wondrous", "Adventurous", etc.

Basically, I got up at 6AM that morning, thinking, "shit, I gotta think of something to draw today." and quickly drew out a 2x3 inch sketch of an idea. And this is what it turned out to be.

Southern: you have any hobbies? What helps you to get in the "training mode" besides training-related stuff?

Very cool!

Hobbies? Outside of my obsession, you mean? :-)

Between working, studying for my CSCS exam (now backed up until February, since the local one in October got dropped due to lack of sign-ups), training, and walking my dog - which is my favorite part of the day - I don't seem to have any free time left.

Studying for the CSCS (and the little bit of volunteering I'm doing with the college strength staff) definitely gets me psyched up to lift though.

I used to train in Martial Arts which I loved. But now My hobbies are my kids hobbies. I try to be as active in their hobbies as possible. My son is in PeeWee football and my daughter cheers for his team. I am assistant cheerleader coach and Self proclamed water mom for the football players. I always throw a couple ideas in the football practices too. I tell ya watching those 6,7,and 8 year old boys with so much heart and love of what they are out there doing really makes you want to work out. My daughter just joined dancing so I have just picked up a new hobbie. This is something I never did as a kid so it should be fun. When they get older I will introduce them into my world. The wonderful world of weights...:D

WOW! I would seriously be interested in seeing more of your art!!!

Actually, my husband and I are huge video game players and love to read. Unfortunately, that often makes us neglect our housework but at least we are happy (and the house is still standing...). I am sure that will change when we get around to having kids...

I've been wondering where you've been. Cool stuff going on eh. Nice artwork! Hiding it on the women's discussion board huh. You don't think men have hobbies? :D
