BC and NuvaRing...

hello ladies, I was hoping I could tap into your knowledge of birth control

my girlfriend recently just got put on Nuvaring, since she was having spotting issues with Yasmin

anyone have experience with this? I have heard and I think I understand why the sides would be less with this form of brith control, but what about the positive side effects? like bigger boobs and clearer skin? Does the nuvaring have these benefits or is this compromised with the reduciton of negative sides?

** Bigger boobs can be the result of excess estrogen, which can cause an increase in bodyfat, especially in the female fat areas ==> could mean bigger butt and thighs as well.

** Hormonal contraceptives also contain progestins. This can cause bigger boobs due to water retentention. This won't be any fun for you or your girlfriend though, because they'll be painful to the touch. Water retention also swells the belly, making clothes tight, and most women feel fat and very bitchy when this happens...

** Clearer skin as a result of using contraceptives can be accompanied by a reduction in libido. The way it clears the skin is by suppressing the woman's natural testosterone. (a cruel joke on women if there ever was one )

On a positive note, I believe the Nuvaring might contain lower estrogen than other forms of BC, which would lessen any estrogen-related possible sides mentioned above. Maybe someone else will have something more positive to report. The thing to keep in mind is that different women will have different reactions to various forms of hormonal BC, depending on her individual hormonal make-up. It can take trial and error to find a good match.

Thanks so much for your input. However, this is now a non-issue. She has a prolapsed uterus (which is suposedly common) and the damn ring kept falling out (this was her first day to try it). So, its not effective for her...

anyone have any suggestions for an oral BC (not yasmin)? How about that patch thing?
