Wolverine_K1

Just been told i have to play the 2 this season, previously a 3. Need to work on my handle. What are some ball handling drills that you guys use or know about? Any websites with them on???
Thanks.

are you driving to the basket alot?? or is it more of a handling the ball like a point guard??
im just saying because my handles like and 1 and point guardare ok. but my first step dribbling and going by guys is good.
tell me and ill tell you some stuff for what kind of handles you want.

Wolverine,

Take this technically;

With the transformation of todays game, everyone handles the ball. What are you thinking? As a swingman, you will always have opportunities to bring the ball up the floor and make decisions.

As a two, you will be doing the exact same thing, except on the ooposite side of the floor. This assumes that your coach has a clue and plays two wingmen.

Swingmen are a teams most athletic player and best defensive player. Are you that?

I had a coach @ UB and he was one of the best technical coaches around. I learned so much from him and his workouts. I do know ball handling drills and they are very basic. 10 straight minutes and that is all. Twice a day.

PM me and I will hook you up.

phammer hook me up please. your good for advice man karma for you!

ps what happened to the vert training program oyu were goign to give me??

I have never seen Shawn Bradley bring the ball up!
I cannot see the differentiation between ball handling for different positions. Only a point does the most followed by the 2 then 3, 4 & 5 do little. The only ball handling i can think of is getting the ball up the court, fast break, penetration dribbling and in the post. All the same principles apply. When i played the three i usually dribbled in the post or one on one, i rarely bought the ball up only in a full court press. Playing the 2 requires me to do this sometimes, in fact far more.

- not necessarily. I would say that from a defensive standpoint Centers would be like Ben Wallace, Shaq etc - most rebounds & blocks. Guards usually get the most steals. Carter isn't the most polished defender. I think athleticism is spread out through all positions you have your Steve Francis' Baron Davis' at the 1, Stackhouse & Kobe at the 2.

I would say swingmen are the most versatile player who have an all round game. As for me i can defend at either, just a little light when matched against 4's but usually jump over them.

to me in my opinion there are different sorts of handles. maybe you have good handles standing waiting for a play to be run while being guarded. or maybe you have good handles beating your man like a cross or in and out.

cuz i have good handles beating my man and bringing it up the court but i cant stay in one spot and dribble being defended. i just cant i need to work on it.

there is a difference to me. maybe its just in my game

Thriller,

I will send it tomorrow from work. Sorry big man.

Wolverine,

Sean Bradley is not bringing the ball up the court, agreed. That is obviously the extreme view. Point is that if all players on the court had handle, the game would become easier than it already is. Fundamentals rule the game.
I did this workout during season for ten quick minutes before and after practice.
Rules
Defensive stance during drill.
Dribble no higher than your waist
No look down

Starting with your opposite hand.
One handed crossovers. Out in front. Each hand gets a minute of work.
Grab another ball. Same drill but use both hands simotaneously. Put one ball down.
Starting with opposite hand.
One handed back and forth. On the side. Let your arm rotate. Each hand gets a minute of work.
Grab other ball.
Use both hands for a minute.
Put ball down.
Starting with your opposite hand.
In and outs. Out in front, in and out. Each hand gets a minute.
Grab other ball
Use both hands. Keep ball. One minute to hit one handed crossovers, back and forth, in and outs.

Keep the emphasis on the the fundamental nature of the movements. Mastering the drills will give you skills.

Spiders are great too. Also increases hand quickness.

Bend your knees, almost to a squat position, but not where your thighs are paralell to the ground, lean slightly forward. Bounce the ball just off the ground between your legs, first with your right hand in front of your legs, then left hand in front of your legs, then right hand behind your legs, then left hand behind your legs, repeat. Don't let the ball bounce higher than 2 or 3 inches off the ground, and it should bounce straight up and down.
