barbell or dumbell shrugs?

Dumbells work better for me. They allow me to keep my arms completely at my side and bring the weight higher in the motion. I do recommend alternating between the two movements on different weeks though.

But yeah, I feel I get better movement with dumbell's, but have heard repeatedly I should use barbell. Solution: alternate.
 
I have to use db. I have long arms and cant stand draging a bb over my twig and berrys. but I will have to start using bb soon not heavy enought db in my home gym.

:D I've got the same problem. You ever try using the squat cage and dragging the bar?
 
NO but I think I will try that this week. You just drag the bar up the uprights? If so sounds like a plan. I thank you and so do my little friends they thank you also.
 
Don't rely on the uprights so much that you change your angle, but just enough to not drag your bag
 
When held to the side, I believe that db work the lower part of the trap, because the barbell is held in front it works the upper traps( I may have this reversed). You can also hold the db's in front of the thighs and get the same effect as with a bb.
 
I do three types

start with dumbell, then go to the bar and end up at the shrugs "machine" where I load it up and bitch
