Thanks for responding my last post about personal training. I'm starting to call some gyms in my area to see how they operate, but they seem to be hesitant to talk. I know some gyms pay you a base rate and provide the clients and others let you decide how much you charge them as long as you get the clients and give them a percent of the training session cost.

Anyways, my other option until I finish my last semester is gym membership sales. I saw an ad in the paper for Bally's sales that says base pay plus commission. Has anyone had any experience doing sales for Bally's? I haven't heard that many good things about the company. The area isn't really in a good business section either so I image you have to really hustle and go out and get leads and pretty much all of your own customers. Not too many people just walk in and want to buy a gym membership from this particular Ballys. I'm not sure if I'd be better off doing sales for them or going out and get clients of my own and do personal training. Thanks for any help.

As a personal trainer at Bally's, you're considered an employee, not an independent contractor. They're responsible for the insurance, etc....
You basically get your own clients either from the floor or from some of the leads you have access to. Most bally's are pretty unorganized in that sense. THey pay you an hourly wage per session (depending on what level package you can sell..the higher the level the more money it costs). For general floor supervision/prospecting they pay you practically nothing, minimum wage basically. Their personal training packages are extremely overpriced adn they don't compensate you accordingly.

There's not really much money in sales, either. They pay you a base of like 7 something an hour and you get commission off your gross sales. The way pay is structured now is really shitty. Before, if you sold a contract you'd get a percentage of the TOTAL value of the contract right after the sale. Now, since they lose alot of clients in these contracts, they pay you based on client retention and several other factors (including down payment, etc). It's very complicated, but if you're interested in real money don't work in bally's.
