I'm wrong about the reasons but F1 is still pretty predictable, hence the odds and the way it played out.

Before last year season, nobody would have bet $1 on Alonso and Renault
They won

Before this season, very few people had forecast the return of Schumi/Ferrari

Anyway all team sports are pretty much predictable these days

Take soccer for instance
For the next World cup this summer, we already know the winner
