hey you guys im really trying to work on my deadlift form, yes i have read the articles over at www.elitefts.com and t-mag so you dont need to give me those. what i am wondering is your shoulders should be behind the bar, when i did this if you are supposed to pull with your shoulders first then start to use the hips wont it just pull the bar back behind the shoulders newayz if you are supposed to have the bar a little in front of your shins. newayz can someone just give me some pointers on waht to look for in my movement and set up, and also b fold do u have any pictures of you in your setup for deadlifts?

Yup , try to pull the weight back onto your heels. And when setting up is is so important to get your entire body tight. Since You have no weight to create a stretch reflex you need to try and create one on your own. Those who saw me deadlift this past weekend will tell you that i do almost a most muscular kinda pose right before and during my decent to the bar so all the muscles are extremely tight at all times.

For conventional style where do you usually place your feet in relation to the bar?

I usually have the balls of my feet right under the bar, I do end up scraping my shins and knees this way. I'm starting to think that my shoulders aren't behind the bar.

If I understood right from this weekend the only time that you pull your shoulders back is when you lockout. And GRIMM is right tightening up made my 375 dead look/feel WAY EASIER than my open 335.

I don't have any pics of my set up for my deadlift...but will take some this Sunday when I do them again (light for a few weeks).

I have brought the bar out farther away from my shins and have noticed that I have not only quit leaving scars on my shins...but my weights and bar speed have both increased.

You must find a proper groove for you...

I can not spend much time bent over before I pull. I tend to take my stance (fairly close) look down and see where I want to grab...and then just reach down...take a few deep breaths...and pull hard. If I wait too long...my back will tend to tighten up or get really taxed. Make sure that all of your warm ups are technically perfect so that when you get to your heaviest pull...you have everything (technically) down perfect.

I second what B fold said about just getting down there and ripping it up! I don't spend a lot of time down there fuging with the bar. I think being confident with your grip will help you do this.

I found one thing that helped me out is not psyching myself out. I try not to even look at the weight if i am trying a max pull or whatnot. I get some chalk go on the platform and do it. It works...
