No but I am a HUGE fan of RA Salvatore and have learned quite a bit about the world of Faerun (spelling) I dunno Im super into fantasy

Cool, I met Bob Salvatore once at a gaming convention years ago. Homeland is a great book.

I haven't really caught his non-FR stuff... I haven't read too many new fantasy novels in teh last few years. I got burned out on them for awhile. I'm a speed reader and knocked out over 500 novels by the time I was 18. Might look into them though.

Faerûn..I've played all over that bitch.
I got a Drizzt t-shirt around here somewhere.

Cool, I've run campaigns in everywhere from Damara to Tethyr. The north will always be my favorite location to play in though.

Spine of the World!
Fucking ice trolls allways jack me when I'm running out of firebombs and spells...or sleeping.

Take a look at Corona, he made all kinds of rules and what not so you can try that out for a campaign as well. Differant magic system though

When one runs out of firebased spells... phantasmal killers do a nice job. Have you experiemented with the shadow adept prestige class yet? One of the guys in my last game got the idea from me, but roled an 18 (I allowed subraces) so he played a sun elf illusionist, put the 18 in int, which was raised to a 20. Took the feat spellcasting prodigy illusionist and picked up shadow adept at 6th level. Very nasty by 7th level with the phantasmal killer spell. He look the craft wonderous items feat as soon as possible, and at 8th level invested in crafting a headband of intellect +6 (by then his intelligence was naturally a 22, and 24 for spellcasting purposes due to his feats). Stack that with the 3rd level shadow adept abilities and and greater spell focus illusion, it unbalanced my game very very fast. He killed that archvillian of my campaign with a single phantasmal killer spell, at 9th level. LoL Some of my players are notorious for finding ways well within the confines of the rules for making rediculously powerful charaters, although the focus of my games is character development and political intrigue.

Anywho, the trolls can't use fast healing to regenerate the death effect from the realatively low level (4th) phantasmal killer spell.

Nope..

Gnomes are the illusionist kings. I hate elves.

Oh shit....

Standard 6 party .
Fighter...Paladin....axe/shield{bow : sword/shield{bow
Cleric.....Ranger....bludgeon/shield{sling : bastard/bow
Thief......Mage.....short sword/bow : Staff/sling{darts

Formation pivot at the ranger.

I dig elves...but played a gnome illusionist/cleric of Garl Glittergold back in 2nd editions days once. His name was Yhevris Winkleflumpter from Herntzbloggin (with an ephasis on the ntz in the pronounciation). One of my more amusing characters. With my current gaming group, I'm not allowed to play haunting elves anymore. The N'tel-quess are just hating on me for my racial superiority. We all know the Tel-quessir are the master race.

I've proved it once again in 3.5 FR games with a both Sun Elf Wizard and Wood Elf Ranger/Rouge (try this setup with short swords... take short sword weapon finess at first level... focus on dexterity as your most important attribute and this type of character makes the ultimate assassin/scout.... oh since you aren elf you can take human as your preferred enemey as a ranger...hint hint).

I've done the ranger/rogue with another rogue for a double backstab and for a hidden scout while the rogue is doing his duties (traps, locks).
Problem is- I don't like to second class the ranger till he gets some spells worth a toss.

Right the point is to make a more effective combat rouge. The faster increase in base attack bonus, aquisition of free combat feats, prefered enemies, btu still keeping the ranks high for sneaking and detection abilities. The faster gain in attack bonues and number of attacks look minor at first, but they make all the difference with the rouge's sneak attack abilites. Powered up with the right spells as a team player, this class setup can deal well over 100 points of damage at 6 or 7th level while the enemy is still flat footed in the opening round of combat.

Ulcaster, please keep in mind that with that the 22 intel and 24 due to spellcasting progidy was before the headband. So he had a 30. It gave him tons of bonus spells, and raised the dc bonus to +10. Another +2 for it being shadow magic, and +2 more for the greater spell focus. The dc on his phantasmal killer spell at 8th level was 28. For most enemies who are not immune to illusion spells basically an automatic death. Undead opponents were not much better, even though they were immune to his magic sicne one of the players was a single class cleric, and another was a paladin.

DAMn, I haven't played D&D in a year or so. Glad to hear that I'm not so untypical afterall. Didn't see you as a RPG guy though BBF.

Why not orb? I was pulling wool at the aggiecon after party this year.

NO reason in particular. I guess I just thought you would be consumed with other things like lifting and women. lol

There are a number of hot girls who play D&D these days in the post LOTR movies United States... and I like to actually look like my character. So bodybuilding and women go hand in hand with playing Dungeons & Dragons... right?

Of course once the fighting is in full swing, it makes the ultimate hand-top-hand support for other warriortypes once the surprise and speed of this class have exhaused thier potential. Remember, any enemey that is flanked is subject to sneak attacks (since flanked oppenents lose their dexterity bonus to ac).

Again, have you tried this using a high dexterity character (the reason for using an elf..) so that you can focus on gaining dexterity instead of focusing on strength and dexterity both, which reduces the abilities somewhat? Read the weapon finess feat carefully. It might not look that impressive at first, but realize that a character taht starts with a 20 dexterity will quickly have a 30+ if the charcaters know what htey are doing (the key to aquiring power fast in 3.5 edition is item creation feats. Stat increasing items are the shit). Since the ranger/rogue relies heavily on on sneak attack bonus damage, one need only focus on increasing their chance to hit and the number of attacks per round, since every successful hit gets the full sneak attack bonus to damage, the more hits you can score per round the more deadly this class becomes. At 10th level I've seen it do over 300 points of damage to dragons or other large monsters in a single round with the right spells from teh arcance spell casters enhancnig them.

Of course novice players (those with 5 or less years of experience) rarely understand these things.

Not trying to come off as a powergamer, Ijust don't believe in the theory that making a character who is a pussy is good roleplaying. "Yeah, I am a good player who roleplays well because I intentionally make characters who chose their skills and what theychose to learn poorly...even though they know their lives rely upon it." Most characters know they are adventurers or mercenaries by trade, and should chose what they learn to do accordingly. Its actually poor role-playing to do otherwise. Again my campaigns focus primarily on character development through the course of the game, and deep plots and intrigue.

I never play the same character twice. That is a joke of mine I use to pick up hot girls at gaming events.

No I play everything from elven wizards to dwarven fighers.

awww muchas gracias had fun as always, Raina has read some of Salvatores stuff and likes Fantasy novels as well FYI

Damn, I had almost forgotten that this game existed, it's probably been 10 years since I played it last. I didn't realised I missed it so much, before reading this thread. FR was probably the world I played most in, but it was DL who was my favorite. Probably because of the novels written by Weiss & Hickman.
I guess I'll have to check this out again.

Heh, I haven't played paper D&D in over ten years, but I still have all of my dice and manuals. I used to love the old gold box computer D&D games (I played them all on a C64). I have both Baldur's Gates games but never got around to finishing either one of them. After my divorce I may just take a few months and play those for awhile while I recharge my emotional batteries.

Gracias, mucho hombre. It's uncharateristicly vain of me, I still feel a bit weird about putting that up. Good for a few days anyway.

Don't most D&D folks spend their down time arguing about which starwars character most represented which greek hero?

They say that being a D&D gamer is a sign of intelligence

I'd say it's a sign of creativity for certain, but I've known some pretty stupid people who play D&D.

It was fun when I was younger, but I wouldn't have the patience for it today. I'd rather be workin in the yard or kayaking, or just about doing anything for that matter.

About half of gamers are very intelligent. About 1/4th are just dorks, and of average intelligence, the other 1/4th are idiots.
