Article on steroids and (dead)professional wreslters

Notice how recreational drugs take a back seat to steroids

The reason they die young is cocaine and type A personalities. If steroids played any role, it probably was not a big one...Of course, I don't know the doses those guys were using. If they were using irresponsibly, of course it could have caused problems...but I doubt that was the case with all of them.

No worse than the bodybuilders, and you don't see them dropping like flies to the same extent. Like I said, probably because of the disparity between the two groups when it comes to rec drugs, personalities, and lifestyles.

Interesting that you mentioned type A personalities....I have no doubt of the connection between type a personality and CHD, but just wondering how you are so sure these people that died are type A??

It's sad, but I can't say that I am suprised. The punishment these guys put there bodies through is INSANE!! Without the drugs, I highly doubt these guys could do what they do and stay in top shape year round.

Both Triple H and Rick Flair were both interviewed recently and asked if they or anyone they know take steroids....they both denied doing it or having any knowlege of it from others.

Now the nature boy I believe now, he's old and doesn't care anymore, but HHH is the man. He's damn near 300lbs and ripped. He and Big Papa Pump are the true bodybuilders of the sport

I agree, likely pain killers and rec drugs. You may notice that they mention numerous times about pain killers in high doses. Yet the author just never seems to make THAT connection.

The work-load and mistreatment of wrestlers is the main reason they turn to drugs and other means of medication to survive. Roddy Piper tried to start a union many years ago to unify the wrestlers and give them a pension plan etc... but McMahon crushed it.

Steroids may be an issue, but the general lifestyle of you average wrestler has more to do with early death than anything else.

Just a general feeling I get about them...I don't think someone who was type B would prefer a job in the entertainment industry.

And mustang...how are wrestlers put through more punishment than other athletes? Just the fact that they perform year-round? Or do you mean that their jobs are more physically demanding than other sports? I think the latter is not even close to the truth.

fair enough...i'll buy that

Did anyone catch this statement in the article?

"Some admit to use of human-growth hormones, a muscle-building compound even more powerful and dangerous than steroids."

WTF???

hah i caught that also.
this is a disturbing article to read being a wrestling fan. from what i can tell as of now mcmahon has cracked down on letting his athletes stay on year around to protect their health. if anyone has watched WWE lately you can tell almost everyone looks flatter/smaller than they did in 2002-03.

I think the fact there is no off season does contribute to the stress physically and mentally, the non stop partying some of them indulge in has killed more than one superstar without the physical aspects of wrestling added to it.

THey overweigh all those guys... HHH isn't close to 300lbs. Legit 250-260 I would say. In terms a phyique.... 1 word.... BATISTA!
