Arnold Classic Powerlifting Event 2002

I must say Jamie Harris is a stud. I have talked to him on the phone a few times and he is a real nice guy too. We will hang together at the Arnold.

frknhuge Tell him Wesley and Michelle says Hi and that we will see him at the Arnold.

Guess you forgot CRAWFORD

Yes I talked to Bill yesterday and he has all intentions of doing the Arnold Classic, and he says he will press well over 800!

How could we forget about Crawford? PowerMag readers know he is a major contender for this meet. Considering 705 took the biggest bench at the last Arnold, this year is going to be crazy. There must be 20 700 pound benchers walking around right now. Never in history has there been so many. There is going to be a serious showdown. I think it is going to come down to who is the most mentally set up for this. Nerves can kick a person's ass. But, no matter what, the Arnold this year should be the best ever!

I think J.M. Blakley told me he is lifting too. Not for sure on that one though. It was a few months ago I talked to him.

I will be there helping out Paul Childress, I will make sure to stop over at the both, I was there when you guys where at this years World Cup in June at York, But about Bill Crawford, if he had to bench with out a shirt he wouldn't be able to hit 485. I have trained with him and everybody in upstate New York knows that whith out the shirt he can't even push 500.

I am sure it is not just the shirt. Nobody gets 250 pounds out of a bench shirt. Doing strength cycles my max will go up and down 100 pounds. And in the the gym and can't do near what I do in competiton. In a meet I flip a switch and pull strength from someplace.

If he is getting 250 pounds out of his shirt like you say he is, I WANT ONE! I would be benching 750 too!

Strongestsurvive may be right on that. I have heard from some of the guys at westside that said he was the weakest 700 bencher they have seen. Who really cares what he benches w/o hs shirt -- the name of the game is can lift the most under the given rules. he is a master with his bench shirt, giv ehim credit for that. he benched a legititmate 750 and he should be given all the respect and credit for that also. Bill is a real cool guy, I don't know or care what he benches w/o a shirt.

If you look at some of Bill Crawford's old lifts when he used poly shirts, we both did a meet in 97. I hit 600 and he hit 465, and we where both wearing double polys. And I know we where both crankning pretty good. Bill also got kicked out of the APA for life from trying to cheat with the equipment. A lot of people in upstate ny that can out lift bill any day of the week and have been outlifting him for a long time, think that the sport is going down hill when you can get over 250 pounds out of a shirt. How can you compare Kaz's 661 bench with out a shirt to bill crawford's 750. I think that when a lot of lifters start to learn the truth about some of these lifters alot are going to go back to the roots of powerlifting and lift raw. Totals may go down but nobody can say that it wasn't you lifting the weight. I know of a lot of lifters going back to the USPF becasue they do equipment checks at the big meets and there are tough on there rules. Now when you ask somebody there lifts I always ask them what organization they lift under; the ones where anything goes or the strict ones. The totals that I hear from the ones where anything goes, I don't take them as serious. I have been competing since 15 yeaars old and I was trained the old way by lifters that used to compete in the 70's.

Can someone tell me what date/time the powerlifting event is? (or where I can find a schedule?)

I would definitely drive up for the PL event, but I don't want to get stuck watching any oiled-up naked guys :D

I am looking at the Arnold Fitness advert in PowerMag and it says Feb 22, 23, and 24

Just talked to Jamie Harris and things are looking good. He is one of the top contenders for this bench meet. Good luck Bro!
