Arnold at his all time biggest, the '71 Mr. O

According to Arnold himself he was 246 here and only 228 during the '75 when Pumping Iron was filmed. There are relatively few pics of the 71 b/c Arnold won uncontested that year, so I suspect most people don't realize he was ever this damn big.

Notice even Arnold infamously "skinny" thighs had some sweep.

arnold is a successful business man.

I would bet a million that that heart valve issue he had a few years back was related to his AAS use over the years. That info of how and why could have been helpful to the bodybuilding community IMHO. But because he wanted to save his image they said it was congenital. Not that it couldn't be.....but I bet its not.

He looked pretty good there. Most noticeable was his quads. Pretty impressive.

i like arnold and im not comparing myself to him or underminding his success. i just never found his look as impressive as most do. huge bi.s over power his whole body reall other than pecs. the legs are like tooth pics i just never understood the desire for this look over the look that cutler has now and even last year at the olympia i think he looked damn good. its the look ive always chased but i know im the odd ball here.

I see what youre saying but arnolds look is just more healthy and functional to most people. If jay took off on a run i dont think he would make it 50 yards before collapsing. There comes a point of diminishing returns as far as how massive these guys get and jay is way past it.

that is verry true. i have no doubt that that body is struggling 24/7 just to survive. hell i still have the problems now and im lean and trt only. but when i was on and up in the 270's i could bairly stand up without breaking a sweat and a simple walk out to the truck put me out of breath.

not worth it dude, imo

Arnold is the man, he is the reason BB is respected and looked upon as a legit sport W/O him it would not be were it is today. And no one has room to disagree, you can disagree if you want and I am sure someone will, but the fact is he is the reason it is the way it is today!

that's puts him at 24 in that pic... damn!
I remember the narrator of Pumping Iron saying, 6'2" and 240lbs. I remember that because I am 6'2" and 250, btu with a little more fat! lol. I'll take those quads! and chest.. and bi! looked incredible!

Arnold has said he was only 228 in '75. He says now it was Weider's idea to exaggerate his weight. I read a reprint of a Muscle Builder article after the '71 claiming Arnold was 260 in this shot.

I think Jay looks awesome because he reminds me of a comic book character. Most noticeably the hulk. Imagine Jay green with the purple pants. He would look like the hulk.

He's that fucking big and dense looking.

I can appreciate the raw dense bulk that he has, but no one imo has ever and may never beat Arnold for a few reasons.

1. Best biceps of all time imo. There have been quite a few bodybuilder's with amazing guns, but Arnold's were both huge and aesthetically beautiful.

2. His chest. I still think he has the best chest of all time. Some of his side chest poses it looks like you could balance a glass of water on his upper pec.

3. His height and overall "look". Arnold in the '71 Olympia looked unbelievable. His legs weren't poorly developed, at least not in his last couple of Olympia's. He just had long legs. This gave him a sweeping almost sculptured look despite being so massive in the upper body.

4. Last, but certainly not least his charisma. Don't ever hate on Arnold. Arnold is the fucking man.

After what I heard , Weider & Arnold did to Serge Nubret in the 1975 O , I lost all my respect for him.

nice find man

arnold was fukin awesome

some can critisize his physique but in end of the day wed all probably swab our physique n genetics for his lol

dont know how people think his arms over powered his body, his arms were unbelievable

and though his legs may not be as big as the current mr Os, i never really liked the tree trunk leg look where ur legs start rubbing together just above the knees due to ur monsterous hamstring and quad size lol

oh hes says hes 6'2 or 6'1

hes shorter ,Ive seen him and that was like 13 years ago

I am 6'2 and towered over him lol

I'm 6'3" and had about an inch and a half on him in height. I worked with him on a Japanese commercial (in '89)and the Terminator 3D attraction for Universal Studios in '95. I think it took almost 2 years to get it into the park in Orlando, even longer to set it up in L.A.. Anyway, I worked on lighting for both projects. If you're 6'2" you didn't tower over him if you even met him at all.

Seen a lot of guys surprised when they meet some celeb in person. Surprised the guy isn't 20 feet tall as they are on the movie screen.

Quite a few people like to say stupid shit like I stood next to Arnold and he was like 5'8" L O L!

No fucking way Arnold is any less than 6' with that build and weight.

As I mentioned back on the first page, Joe Weider exaggerated Arnold's competitive bodyweight so effectively that it is extremely common today to hear people repeat those inaccurate weights as if fact. Same thing with Arnold's height.

It's not a secret that he was/is a little over 6'1" and Joe fluffed it up to 6' 2". That phony height apparently goes all the way back to '68 and the very first articles about Arnie that Joe printed in Muscle Builder.

I think if you compare what he did in his time, compared to other bodybuilders in their time. I dont see how anyone can argue that he was the greatest. He's admitted to steroid use so I dont see why people give him a hard time about it.

Bro, Arnold is probably talked about as the greatest bodybuilder of all time...how is he overrated? it's not all about size you know

You have to take into consideration impact on the sport, how Arnold pushed the sport forward and made it more legitimate, the exposure he gave the sport, etc. If you take all his titles, sure, he didnt win as many as others (Haney/Coleman) but there is no disputing what Arnold did for the sport and industry of bodybuilding as a whole. No other bodybuilder even comes close to that, and thats what makes him the greatest of all time.

Not to mention he was the most successful. He used his bodybuilding career to become a successful actor and now a politician.

arnold is a legend

end of story

u can say what u want about him but in the end of the day he is the reason why bodybuilding is as big as it is today,

and why it is so heavily recognised around the world

not to mention what arnold ahs achieved

MR OLYMPIA, MOVIE STAR, GOVENATOR lol

lets face it he is one very successful man, and shoudl be appreciated for his accomplishments

That's very true Cheappinz.

I'd like to make a few comments about Arnold and his number of Mr. Olympia wins.

Arnold RETIRED undefeated from when he won his first Sandow to his last. There was literally no hope of anyone beating him. I fully believe Arnold could have won 10+ Olympia's if he had wanted to. When interviewed Tom Platz after having said how much the sport progressed admitted Arnold would win if he came in top shape.

People can say what they want about Arnold's dubious 1980 comeback win, but he still looked damn good and that was only with about 3 months training if I remember right about 2 for his next Conan film and then 1-2 really hard when he realized he might get into good enough shape for the Olympia.

Imagine Arnold non-stop training past the 1975 up to the 1980. He woulda just got better and better proportioned and even bigger.

Arnold is the greatest.
